Job Summary
The Ophthalmology Scribe will work closely with the physicians to accurately document patient encounters including medical history, examination and diagnostic findings, procedures, and assessments and plans. Documentation will be completed by the scribe immediately after the physician completes the face-to-face patient encounter. This role requires strong multi-tasking abilities, excellent organizational skills, and a keen understanding of ophthalmic terminology and procedures as well as electronic health record documentation compliance requirements.

This role requires strong multi-tasking abilities, excellent organizational skills, and a keen understanding of ophthalmic terminology and procedures as well as electronic health record documentation compliance requirements.
Job Duties
- Accurately and efficiently document patient encounters in the electronic health record system as dictated by the physician during patient visit.
- Work in collaboration with certified coding specialists to consistently meet documentation compliance requirements based on physician coding and encounter details.
- Be available continuously for scribing during clinic working hours (approximately 9:30am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 5:30pm Pacific time)
- Review unsigned and signed charts to ensure that all charts are signed by the physician and charts are maintained in a clean and organized manner (with respect to informal notes used for communication between physician and scribe).
- Assist in following up on outside labs, other testing, or referrals.
- HS Diploma/GED
- 2 Years of experience as a Medical Scribe
- 2 Years of EMR/EHR experience - NexTech IntelleChart EHR preferred.
- 2 Years of Ophthalmology Experience preferred
- Proficient in medical terminology, abbreviations, and healthcare documentation practices, preferably in ophthalmology.
- Strong typing skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in documenting patient encounters.
- Ability to capture and transcribe information accurately and efficiently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including correct English spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Knowledge of industry regulations, such as HIPAA and CMS guidelines, is a plus.
