First Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics Coach
We are seeking an experienced robotics mentor and leader to coach a new rookie First Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics team. As the FTC Coach, you will guide and support high school students as they design, build, program, and compete with a robot of their own creation. This is an exciting opportunity to use your robotics and leadership skills to help shape the next generation of STEM talent.
Responsibilities:
- Lead robot design, fabrication, assembly, programming, and testing from prototype to finished bot.
- Facilitate team sessions 3-4 times per week during the intensive Build Season from September to December.
- Arrange logistics for competition registration, travel, and onsite tournament coordination.
- Foster student collaboration, problem-solving, strategic thinking, and design skills.
- Share team progress and accomplishments with families and supporters.
Time Commitment, Projected: (May vary)
- Pre-Season (August): 5-10 hours
- Build Season (September-December): 10-15 hours per week
- Competition Season (January-April): 6-8 full weekend tournament days
- Post-Season (May): 5 hours
Requirements:
- 3 years experience mentoring/coaching youth robotics teams such as FLL, FTC, FRC.
- Proven robotics engineering and programming abilities.
- Passion for STEM education and youth development.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Organized, responsible, and dependable.
- Able to commit to full competition season, meetings, and events.
- Must pass required background check
- Complete mandated reporter and child safety training

- Are you currently residing within San Jose/South Bay Area or its immediate vicinity, and available to work in-person at the school location for limited hours of 3-5 per week?
- Our new FTC team requires a coach who can commit to guiding the students through the full season from Kickoff in September through State and potential World Championships in spring. Can you commit 8-10 months as coach to see our rookie team through their first full season?
