There is a job vacancy in the BAY COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT – PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES DIVISION

JOB TITLE: EPIDEMIOLOGICAL INVESTIGATOR FULL-TIME (TEMPORARY)

RATE OF PAY: $19.90 per hour

This is a temporary full-time position with limited benefits. Evening and weekend hours are required. Position may require home-based work which will require a high-speed internet connection.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Public Health Services Manager, Epidemiological Investigator assists with, and conducts disease case investigation and management to individuals and organizations affected by COVID-19. Provides services to identify at-risk populations by telephone and other electronic means. Provides consultation and education on COVID-19 mitigation efforts to organizations throughout Bay County. Epidemiological Investigators are required to follow all scripts, policies, and procedures provided, and comply with training regarding confidential information related to personal information.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists with investigations of reported COVID-19 cases by interviewing infected individuals by phone to determine the likely source of illness, close contacts, and the potential for outbreak. Call contacts of newly diagnosed patients.
2. Uses web-based client resource management platform to call all contacts of anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 to document a symptom check, refer them for testing according to established protocols, and provide them with instructions for quarantine.
3. Implements isolation and quarantine recommendations per protocol and teaches measures to prevent further spread to contacts and the community, monitors symptom progression/resolution, and referral to appropriate community resources.
4. Maintains up-to-date case records and reports documenting service delivery and caseload management.
5. Maintains awareness of community. Uses professional skills to identify individuals and groups whose behaviors place them at risk for health problems.
6. Provides health information to the public and makes referrals to appropriate agencies.
7. Communicate with contacts in a professional and empathetic manner.
8. Collect and record information on symptoms into Client Resource Management.
9. Provide contacts with approved information about Bay County quarantine procedures, and if appropriate, refer them to testing according to protocol and/or to a COVID-19 Care Resource Coordinator for social resources.
10. Performs other work as assigned.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to exhibit a professional, positive attitude and work ethic with discretion and professionalism.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required and ability to interact professionally and show empathy with culturally diverse individuals during a time of crisis and distress.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with administrative, clinical and support staff to accomplish the goals of the program.
  • Proficiency with computers and data entry into electronic tracking systems. Must be able to demonstrate computer literacy across a variety of platforms.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Highly detail oriented, works well within a diverse team, demonstrates a high degree of initiative and flexibility, able to communicate effectively in a positive and professional manner, able to prioritize activities when under tight deadlines, and possesses analytical skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a field with relevance to health care or human services
  • Relevant work experience or advanced education in public health, business, or another relevant field will be considered with preference
  • Investigators may be required to use their own computer and electronic equipment and have access to a reliable high-speed internet.
  • This experience can count as part of a practicum or applied practice experience requirements.

Physical: This position requires sitting, being mobile, bending and/or standing for significant periods of time. Additional requirements include the ability to move objects according to the following weight and frequency: generally 20-50 pounds up to one third of the time. Candidate must have adequate visual activity and hearing comprehension to read reports and communicate with clients and other providers. Must have adequate physical dexterity to climb stairs, balance and navigate under unstable environmental conditions. Must possess valid operator’s license and auto liability insurance. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without accommodation.
