POSITION SUMMARY:
The position is responsible for the completion of the daily scheduled and unscheduled carpentry duties, and other duties as assigned by the Public Works Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Receives work orders from supervisor and carries out the work orders
Estimates materials, tools, and other equipment needed for each order; forward materials list to supervisor for purchase.
Set up and operate woodworking tools to cut, form, and finish materials for assignments. Erects or dismantles structures, repairs or refinishes walls or structures.
Provides preventative maintenance on all equipment and tools.
May do painting, roofing, siding, cement work, dirt work, or other manual labor, as assigned by the Public Work Director and/or Project Manager.
Cleans up job sites.
Keeps inventory of materials on hand.
Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of this position at the supervisor’s discretion. This will include working as a Laborer for the department when deemed necessary.
Must attend all mandatory trainings designated by the Human Resources Department and/or Department Director.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and stand with occasional sitting. Occasionally the employee must squat, crawl, crouch, and kneel with frequent bending, climbing, balancing, and push/pulling. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds while occasionally lifting up to 100 pounds. The employee is regularly exposed to heights, moving machinery, marked changes in temperature and humidity, dust, fumes, and gases.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of three (3) years carpentry experience required; master carpenter certification desired.
Must have a valid driver’s license and excellent driving record preferred.
Must have knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures.
Must have thorough knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (M.S.D.S.).
Must be able to work flexible schedules, including holidays and weekends.
Must have an excellent attendance record and past work history.
Must possess a personable, customer service attitude along with organizational ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Must have excellent communication skills.
Must be able to work independently as well as in a group setting.
Must have an excellent past work record.
