GENERAL SUMMARY:
Summary:
The Supervisor of Environmental Services assists in the coordination of day-to-day operations of the Environmental Services Department, in the absence of the Manager. The Supervisor is responsible for scheduling and monitoring the work hours of the Environmental Services staff. The Supervisor performs housekeeping tasks including floor care, to maintain the facility in a clean, orderly and attractive condition to provide an acceptable environment for patients, staff and visitors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. May assume the role of manager in the absence of an ES Manager. Prior to shift beginning, fills supply requests and prepare equipment for staff usage.
2. Gives instructions to staff relevant to assignments, changes and pertinent information. Verify the signing of the sign-in sheets by the staff.
3. Answers all calls on the house pager with a sense of urgency, professionalism and complete follow through.
4. Ensures all set-ups are assigned and completed for meetings.
5. Inspects work of subordinates, instruct incumbents to redo an unsatisfactory discharge or room cleaning.
6. Performs duties in assigned work area (i.e. vacuuming the units, burnish patient rooms and shampoo carpets).
7. Documents any operational or employee-related issues in detail and submit to the Manager or Director for his/her review.
8. Ensures safety of staff members, enters safety variance if needed
9. Conducts general training for new employees in floor care, wall washing, carpet cleaning, and special procedures
10. Assists manager; coordinates staff work activities
11. Oversees and assists with special projects and set-ups to ensure accurate and timely completion
12. Performs duties in the absence of the manager, (weekends and off-hours): Plans work schedules and assigns labor hours ensure adequate service for all areas of the hospital
13. Monitors bed tracking system to ensure timely throughput
14. Communicates with Nursing Supervisor and Nursing Managers to address concerns
15. Applies knowledge of all job assignments and cleaning procedures and use of equipment in the area of work assignment.
16. Serves as a role model for personnel in terms of quality of work and following of policies and rules and promotes team work among personnel
17. Resolves problems that are within the position's scope of authority and recommends courses of action to resolve problems that are beyond the scope of authority to the positions supervisor.
18. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL:
- Education High School Diploma or GED
- Credential
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Five years or more with commercial housekeeping experience, including floor care responsibility; experience in training personnel Preferred: One year supervisory experience in health care setting.
