In-person General Interpreter (Independent Contractor)

**These are Onsite appointments and are located in Massachusetts*

As a professional interpreter, you will provide an invaluable service to community members by providing on-site interpretation services in a variety of settings including both hospitals and doctors' offices. Baystate Interpreters, Inc. allows for flexibility within your schedule by offering per diem assignments at competitive rates. Baystate Interpreters, Inc., located in Gardner, MA provides professional interpreting and translation services in over 150 languages. Our accredited staff are well-versed in legal, medical, business and education interpreting services on a simultaneous and consecutive basis. All of our services are provided with the highest standard of professionalism, ethics and confidentiality.

Requirements:

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
• Must reside in Massachusetts
• Must be willing to travel within a 30 mile radius of your home to client locations
• Must have completed a 60-hour Medical Interpreter Training Course (valid certificate from a reputable training institution is required)

Responsibilities:

• Interpret between English and (applicable) languages.
• Maintain the appropriate tone of voice while observing cultural nuances
• Maintain professionalism through attitude and interpreting service standards
• Demonstrate excellent customer service skills
• Respond to the interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
• Render correct concepts and meanings according to the conventions of established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.

Qualifications:

• Proficient in English and (applicable) languages
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Ability to remain calm and compassionate when dealing with difficult individuals and crisis situations
• Flexible availability
• Excellent listening, retention and note-taking skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation
• Understanding and implementation of HIPAA protocols
• All languages, experience and skill levels encouraged to apply

Pay: From $25.00 per hour
