This position will function within the BD Research Animal Program Unit of Corporate Preclinical Development and Toxicology (CPDT) and will support the BD Attending Veterinarian to provide veterinary clinical care needs of the BD research animals on a routine basis. This position will directly support the Veterinary Medical Services Core and the Surgical and Anesthesia Core teams to ensure best practices veterinary care and animal welfare across the BD Research Animal Program. This position will support all IACUC pre-veterinary review, oversight, and animal regulatory and guidelines consultation.Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide clinical care to the BD Research Animals including prophylactic treatment, clinical care, and veterinary procedures to maintain individual patient health.
Directly manage the Veterinary Medical Services Core and Surgical and Anesthesia Core Services.
Support the BD Research Animal Health sentinel health monitoring program.
Provide SOP and Policy development and consultation to the BD Research Animal Care Program and the BD IACUC.
Provide training to the BD Research Animal Care Teams and Investigators on animal care procedures, veterinary health assessment, handling, and SOPs.
Develop veterinary network with BD approved vendors and Clinical Resource Organizations (CROs) to provide clinical consultation and onsite animal welfare audits.
Maintain veterinary best practices, knowledge and culture always dedicated to animal welfare and equivalent to human medical patient care.
Provide surgical support to approved IACUC protocol studies and clinical health needs when necessary, including major and minor procedures.
Member of the BD Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. Provide pre-veterinary review and consultation to the BD Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
Provide Attending Veterinarian delegated support and perform required job duties when not available.
Provide veterinary on call service in collaboration with the Attending Veterinarian including weekends and holidays.
Requirements:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
Board Certified and Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine; or Board Certified in Equivalent Specialty Considered including Surgery or Zoological Medicine, Animal Welfare.
Veterinary Clinical Practice minimum experience of 5 years.
AALAS membership or certification preferred.
Working knowledge of computers (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
Medical Record SOAP format and electronic medical record software knowledge;
Preventative Clinical Medicine and Diagnostic Skills.
Surgical Skills including major and minor surgery.
Imaging experience using clinical ultrasound and radiography.
Team and Customer service oriented.
Effective Communication Style to work across variety of clients.
Effective Training and Teaching Skills.
Public speaking and presentation skills.
Prior experience as a volunteer or a worker in a animal shelter and or clinic.
