This is an entry level laboratory position on Red Nights that is responsible for the preparation, inspection, and management of additive components issued by the Additive Lab while maintaining standards in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:
Prepares additives on a routine basis to ensure a continuous supply to Production.
Monitors the additive stock on a daily basis to ensure that expired materials are discarded.
Becomes familiar with the additives used in the manufacture of Vacutainer product lines and the raw materials used to produce the additives.
Develops a high degree of accuracy and good technique in all procedures related to preparation of additives.
Learns to operate laboratory batch mixing equipment to include analytical scales, mixers, grinders and volumetric measuring equipment.
Operates basic laboratory instrumentation such as spectrophotometers, pH meters, analytical balances, turbidimeter, moisture meter, and polarimeter.
Develops a high degree of accuracy and good technique in all laboratory procedures, including chemical assays, preparation of test solutions, mathematical calculations and maintaining quality records.
Becomes familiar with the test procedures and the chemical names of materials used in the laboratory.
Maintains communication with Production Scheduling concerning schedule revisions or chemical raw material shortages.
Follow safe laboratory procedures and precautions when operating equipment and handling chemicals.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned to support laboratory performance goals.
Assists in maintaining the laboratory in a neat and orderly manner.
12-hour Shift: Red Nights / 7PM -7AM
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Other responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Complies with all local, state, federal and BD safety and environmental regulations, standards, and policies/procedures.
Complies with all local BD quality policies/procedures/practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles.
Performs assigned work without continuous supervision.

SUPERVISION
The position reports directly to the Lab Supervisor.
The position has no supervision over others.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Associates degree and/or 2 years of laboratory experience with emphasis in chemistry or analytical testing.
Mental Requirements
Self-motivated with the ability to work without continuous/direct supervision.
Strong interpersonal skills, having the ability to work across departmental boundaries with individuals of varying levels of authority.
Effective organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
Strong attention to detail and thoroughness of record keeping.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Equipment Use
Ability to understand and operate laboratory equipment, including all mixing equipment and analytical equipment associated with additive inspections.
Physical Requirements
Physical Capacity Profile (PCP) Test is Required.
Medium Work (Level 3) – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly. Physical demand requirements are more than those for Light Work.
Must be able to distinguish color changes.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
The worker is subject to mechanical hazards, chemicals, and other industrial hazards associated with manufacturing.
