ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Follows safe laboratory procedures and precautions when operating equipment and handling chemicals or microorganisms.
Assists with coordination of the activities of the microbiology lab in support of a 24/7 shift manufacturing operation, and indirectly is responsible for the daily activities of the microbiology lab.
Supervises the monitoring of inventory of items in the microbiology lab.
Assists with performing procedures, validation, and training according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Corporate Quality Assurance.
Assists with performing laboratory owned calibrations.
Understands the principles of scheduling and how it relates to support the Sterility Assurance Program.
Schedules and performs non-routine testing as needed.
Assists with performing out of specification investigations.
Assists with the incubator temperature profiles and the annual laboratory autoclave requalification.
Assists with the development and documentation associated with new procedures including the development of preventative maintenance programs as needed.
Assists with purchasing supplies and maintaining the monthly budget. Assists in the preparation of the annual budget.
Ability to operate all equipment / perform all routine testing in the lab with basic trouble shooting skills.
Performs Lab Technician functions as directed or needed.
Upholds a high degree of accuracy and good technique in all laboratory procedures, including all testing associated with the support of a Sterility Assurance Program including the preparation of media, mathematical calculations and maintaining records and logbooks.
Assists with reviewing and approving reports, documents and testing that is generated by the Microbiology lab as specified by operating procedures.
Education
A two-year associate degree is required with preference to a degree in a science related field. The exception is more than two years of experience with good standing in a microbiology function.
Completion of a bachelor’s degree in a scientific field with a minimum of four courses in microbiology or related fields is required within 3 years of accepting the position as agreed upon by the Lead Microbiologist and Human Resources.
Experience
A minimum of two years proven microbiology or clinical laboratory experience is preferred.
Requires an aptitude for mathematics, record keeping, inventory control, and the ability to work efficiently with supervisors and fellow associates.
Familiarity and experience with aseptic technique is required.
