Position Summary:
This position represents a fantastic opportunity for a talented, highly motivated, and positive individual to become a proactive member of BD’s global Operational Excellence (OPEX) community.
Essential Roles:
Reporting to the Business Unit OPEX Leader, the Business Unit OPEX Manager will be passionate about creating a culture of operational and customer excellence, implementing change, and driving Continuous Improvement (CI) across the network through the BD Production System (BDPS).
This strong operational excellence and continuous improvement identity will be created through the systematic application of LEAN production and CI principles, methodologies, and associated tools, to ensure sustainable optimization of performance in the areas of quality, delivery, and cost, whilst improving safety.
Key tasks and strategic accountability:
Lead BDPS capability development at 4-6 sites, typically focusing on one or more product families.
Help shape and deploy BDPS roadmap, coordinate and /or lead specific breakthrough Kaizen events and /or initiatives to enable targeted performance improvement.
Leverage Lean Academy as capability building mechanism, to ensure consistent approach and development excellence.
As an experienced and certified BDPS practitioner, teach and coach associates to develop and grow BDPS capability.
Help site leadership teams create strategic vision, ensure alignment through cascading Key Performance Indicators (KPIs’) top down and bottom up.
Lead focused improvement efforts at key sites / to support critical initiatives (e.g., drive OEE, OLE) or other critical projects.
Target multiple breakthrough events each year.
Challenge existing paradigms, help accelerate impact of key initiatives.
Support global component centers-of-excellence (COEs).
Help develop standards and best practices.
Optimize methodologies for different manufacturing technologies.
Develop and leverage best practices, drive best practice development and adoption.
Ensure deploying sites establish and maintain appropriate component KPIs, maintain and promote visibility of global component impact.
Support maturity assessment program across multiple business units.
Develop and grow BDPS impact through deployment of progressively advanced aspects of component methodologies.

Degree of Accountability:
Accountable for the achievement of cost-to-win performance for represented plants within the business unit. Has a strong direct impact on strategy execution.
Accountable for the achievement of key operational goals with represented sites.
Will often leads project / initiative teams for the achievement of key operational goals, including cost-to-win, drive OEE /OLE with purpose.
Erroneous decisions or recommendations may cause substantial expenditure of human capital and budgeted resources.
Financial Impact:
Has influence on the key drivers for profit, loss, and productivity.
Has impact on cost and productivity for represented sites within the business unit. E.g., is responsible for CtW performance.
Accountable to maintain and optimize loss landscape and multi-year cost-to-win project pipeline.
Technical Area of Expertise:
Demonstrates a specific and advanced set of skills in BPDS and has knowledge in one or more areas of Operational Excellence / LEAN production.
Often viewed as a thought leader in one or more BDPS components.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other bachelor’s degree.
Previous experience in implementing, and strong knowledge of, Lean and Six Sigma business systems.
Six sigma black belt certification preferred.
Demonstrated passion for safety, customer centricity and operational excellence
Minimum 10 years manufacturing experience / leadership experience in a plant
Excellent understanding of the interaction between operational excellence and customer service
Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills with people at all levels
Strong track record in project or program management
Experience of working in a multi-site and multi-cultural environment
Business acumen and ability to display the linkage between projects and desired business results
Personal Specification:
Flexible and able to travel. Expected travel up to 25 to 40%.
