Job Description Summary

The Life Sciences Innovation team at BD Technologies and Innovation is seeking an R&D Staff Scientist I/II with a strong background in biochemistry and clinical chemistry. The successful applicant will combine a deep biochemical and functional understanding of proteins and enzymes with prior experience in developing assays for detecting and characterizing proteins and bioactive molecules. A background in biomaterials and/or stabilization of biomolecules would be highly advantageous. The candidate will be part of a diverse multi-disciplinary team, supporting the development of assays for the healthcare and life sciences market in such areas as oncology, infectious disease, and chronic disease management.

Duties include:

  • Design and execute statistically sound experiments in oncology, infectious disease, and chronic disease management with the purpose of building and improving technologies for entry into product development

  • Work closely with strategic marketing to uncover and prioritize customer unmet needs; develop solutions to address these needs

  • Develop and implement technical workplans and provide updates on progress versus key strategic milestones.

  • Remain up-to-date on relevant published research and commercial landscapes

  • Provide project progress updates to key project stakeholders and review boards

  • Represent BD in interactions with key opinion leaders, collaborators, and potential/current customers

  • Serve as subject matter expert as needed for other programs within BDTI

  • Perform due diligence and assessment of external technologies

This position requires deep subject-matter expertise in biochemical processes and biomolecular interactions. Knowledge and practice of techniques in biochemistry, clinical chemistry, hematology, and/or protein characterization are required. The successful candidate will combine a familiarity with standard methods with at least 3 years prior experience. Demonstrated ability to organize and conduct complex experiments in support of project goals is required.

This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The candidate should be able to plan and conduct scientific experiments and effectively analyze, interpret, and present experimental results. The candidate will be able to successfully collaborate with diverse team members across broad subject matter knowledge. The candidate should also be able to adapt to changing requirements that can arise in a dynamic work environment and will be expected to make productive intellectual contributions within in areas not directly related to their field.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a M.S. with five plus years of experience

  • (Ph.D. preferred) with two years of experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related biological science

  • Experience requirements

    • Staff Scientist I – up to 3 years post-graduate experience in relevant scientific field

    • Staff Scientist II – 3 years post-graduate experience in relevant scientific field

  • Excellent communication skills and experience working in a team environment

  • Demonstrated learning agility and ability to adapt quickly to shifts in program priorities

  • Research experience in handling biological samples in accordance with best biosafety practices

  • Demonstrated working knowledge in clinical chemistry is considered a significant advantage
