We are a quickly growing residential lawn and landscape company in Austin with plans of some aggressive growth. Our bread and butter is maintenance, but we have the ability to do fairly complicated landscaping and irrigation projects.

We are looking for our next Operations manager. This job post is a bit atypical. This is what you

Big Picture

We are a residential lawn, landscape and irrigation company that serves the Austin area. We are big enough for stability but small enough for flexibility and to know everyone in the organization. We have a vision to become the largest residential lawn and landscaping company in Texas in the coming decade.

We currently have ~ 1700 routine mow clients and each year we work with several thousand additional homeowners on one-time landscape or irrigation projects. Our goal is to be their first thought whenever they need something done in their yard.

There are three departments that serve our customers:

- Maintenance: routine services like mowing and beds & shrub maintenance.

- Irrigation: we water things.

- Landscaping: One-time projects to enhance the landscape (planting, sod, trees, etc).

How does this role fit into the company?

Maintenance is the bread and butter of the organization. 50% of our company revenue comes through maintenance.

We currently have one person filling the role of Maintenance Operations manager AND Landscaping Operations Manager.

We think the time is right to split this into two roles.

This role will be responsible for executing the hundreds of routine jobs that we have scheduled

daily. (More on role in the next section).

What are the responsibilities of the role?

- Lead, Manage and Hold Accountable Maintenance foremen and crew (~50

people). This includes regular meetings with your foremen and consistent realignment on roles and responsibilities.

- Scheduling: Choose which jobs are on which days if needed. Most of the maintenance is pre-determined but about 10% needs scheduling.

- Coordinate with router (Angela) and make the final decisions on routing.

- Adjust throughout the day to ensure optimized service for customers and profitability for us.

- Handle tickets from the service team that relate to maintenance service for the clients. Translate when appropriate.

- Handle questions and problems as they arise throughout the day.

- Coordinate with Dispatcher and hand off at the end of the day to ensure success of the daily plan.

- Fill in for the landscape manager, dispatch manger and scheduler when needed.

- Ensure the maintenance teams have the appropriate vehicles and equipment to succeed in their roles.

- Manage budgeted time and on-site efficiency of the maintenance crews

- Safety Safety Safety. You are responsible for the training, documentation and implementation of safe practices of your team while working.

- Train crew members and new teammates for skills and processes.

- Ultimate responsibility for success of the maintenance department.

- Client resolution for maintenance issues (damages, issues, etc).

- Coordinate with the landscaping operations manager for when personnel

need to go back and forth

- Be a good human. Care and look out for the team. Make them better

people through your example and leadership.

- Interview, assess and hire new crew members.

Day in the life:

- Start at 6ish. End 4ish.

- Leadership requires accessibility. There are times when you will need to be available outside work hours for conversations or messages from your team.

- Finalize lists and meet with the foremen and send them on their way.

- Safety and performance visits to the crews in the field.

- Deal with emails and tickets and plan for the next day.

- This is a test. Please put your favorite color in the first message you send for the application.

- Deal with fires

- Set up the dispatch manager for the rest of the day.

- Plan for some training that is upcoming.

- Deal with a grumpy customer (via phone or in person).

Experience, skills, prerequisites:

- Fluent in Spanish (not required, but highly valued).

- Management experience in a blue collar or military setting

- Must be able to be on site daily

- Ability to pass drug screening

- Clean Motor Vehicle Record

- Heck of a good guy or gal

Compensation

- Starting pay of $65,000-$85,000 with potential for performance pay in future.
