BDR is seeking a Senior Risk Manager to join our growing team! The ideal candidate will be remotely based (as long as 8AM to 5PM EST office hours can be supported) with the bulk of their duties performed virtually from their home office. Some travel (10%) may be required but is unlikely.

Role Overview
The Senior Risk Manger will provide comprehensive risk management support for multiple software development projects within one or more Product Lines at the VA Office of Information Technology. The Senior Risk Manager will lead all risk planning and risk identification activities, proactively collaborate with risk owners to develop mitigation strategies, and manage risks within Jira – an issue and project tracking tool.
Responsibilities
- Provide risk management support for software development projects within one or more Product Line
- Perform qualitative and quantitative risk analyses to determine their severity and priority
- Maintain a project risk register using Jira and enter all required data for each risk entry
- Conduct recurring risk identification and review meetings with project stakeholders
- Coordinate with team members to gather and validate risk data
- Proactively collaborate with risk owners to develop mitigation strategies
- Update risk status in various online tools and project dashboards
- Provide input on risk statuses for various reporting requirements and presentations
- Collect and report monthly performance metrics
- Track the top 3-5 project risks and issues at all times for rapid input into reporting requirements
- Assist with the development of high-quality responses to external information requests
- Facilitate executive-level virtual meetings; prepare meeting agenda, capture meeting minutes, and track outcomes and action items
- Work proactively and independently to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
- Function as part of an integrated team sharing products, best practices, and information across the portfolio
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline
- 10 total years’ experience with at least two years’ experience support IT projects OR 18 years’ total experience in lieu of a bachelor’s
- Experience working as a contractor or an employee of a federal agency
- Experience working in a consulting environment and understanding of client/customer relations
- Ability to work under pressure, coordinate multiple assignments at once, and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
- High attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- PMP Certification
Required Skills and Experience
- Understanding of basic project risk and issue management as outlined in the Project Management Body of Knowledge
- Jira experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience working as a contractor or an employee of a federal agency
- Experience working in a consulting environment and understanding of client/customer relations
- Ability to work under pressure, coordinate multiple assignments at once, and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
In addition, U.S Citizenship is required.
