We are looking for an experienced oral surgery assistant to support our oral surgeon before, during, and after each dental procedure. Your responsibilities will include receiving patients, viewing charts and beginning patient preparation. You will make notes about performed procedures, progress, recommendations, and other subjects. You must ensure that surgical tools are properly cleaned and sterilized before procedures begin. You may be responsible for tasks such as taking x-rays, processing items such as removable dental appliances and casts or impressions, checking vital signs or maintaining IV fluid flows during procedures. Some clerical work, including record keeping and handling phone calls may be necessary.
To be successful as an oral surgery assistant, you should be highly organized and attentive to patients' needs. An outstanding oral surgery assistant should have an excellent understanding of oral surgery procedures and exceptional hand-eye coordination.
Surgical Responsibilities:
- Proper instrument cleaning in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
- Autoclave operation and function.
- Surgical tray set-up.
- Identification of instruments used in the clinic.
- Room set up/break down for IV anesthesia and surgery.
- Seat patient and perform pre-op setup.
- Review charts.
- Nitrous oxide set up.
- Properly position restraints.
- Support airway for sedated patients.
- Demonstrate patient calming techniques.
- Ability to circulate and retrieve instruments.
- Monitor patients post anesthesia.
- Assess if patient needs to see a doctor.
- Understand emergency procedures and operation of emergency equipment.
- Perform daily, weekly, and quarterly preventative maintenance on instruments, equipment, headpieces.
- Provide excellent patient care at all times.
Non-Surgical Responsibilities:
- Familiar with all forms and handouts (procedure-based, consent forms, etc.).
- Aware of an in compliance with OSHA requirements (e.g personal protection).
- Greet patients and make them feel comfortable.
- Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, filing and charting.
- Perform patient consultations.
- Provide discharge instructions.
- Make follow up phone calls to patients.
- Take X-Rays / scans.
- Enter EMR notes for various appointments and procedures.
- Properly closing and opening the office each day (Tanks, Suction, Xray)
Required Qualifications:
- Highschool diploma or equivalent required.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification required, may obtain prior to start date.
- X-ray certification(s) required.
- Proficient in Microsoft office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Great organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to provide excellent patient care, even under stressful circumstances.
- Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude.
Preferred Qualifications:
- OMSA and ACLS Certifications preferred, must obtain if hired.
- Experienced in WIN OMS preferred, Dentrix and Eagle Soft experience accepted.
- Training / education in oral surgery assistant program heavily preferred.
- Previous clinical experience preferred.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, day shift, typically 8am to 5pm. Shift rotation can start as early as 6:15am.

Special Requirements:
- Physical requirements include sitting, stooping, turning, standing, bending, walking, hearing, reading, writing and keyboarding, lifting up to 25 lbs.
