Position Summary
We are looking for a Head of Engineering to lead and expand our in-house tech team and own the technical direction and development of our core platform. You will lead a small, but nimble team of software engineers, and will create, implement, and own the overall technical strategy. We believe in hiring "swiss army knives" and "wearing many hats," so you will have ownership of the product roadmap and development, work across the front and backend of the product and take user feedback to improve the interface.
Responsibilities
- Set the technical strategy and direction for the engineering team.
- Work with product, design, and business leadership to determine the optimal technical strategy and ensure successful execution of the product roadmap.
- Continuously optimize our engineering process and standards to make our team as efficient and productive as we can be.
- Manage and provide leadership for our growing engineering team with a focus on execution, collaboration, and learning by doing.
- Tasked with ownership and accountability for taking features from idea/prototype to implementation.
- Responsible for architecting and designing backend services as well as doing hands-on development work.
- Drive feature development end-to-end and deliver projects in a fast-moving and dynamic environment.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of engineering management experience
- Strong communication and collaboration skills and the ability to translate technical ideas and goals to the business.
- Broad SDLC toolkit, knowledge of modern software development processes, and the ability to implement what works best for our company.
- Excellent people manager with a player/coach mentality.
- Successful track record working through complex technical and organizational challenges.
- Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, driven to achieve technical excellence, and unafraid to think outside the box.
- Strong expertise in CSS3, JavaScript, Angular, React JS, Python, Node. JS, Express JS, and Google App Engine or similar cloud deployment.
- DBMS: knowledge and experience with SQL databases, MongoDB.
- Experience leading end-to-end development teams (FE, BE, DevOps, QA, Data) in Scrum/Agile environments.
- Domain expertise in application lifecycle management, web application, and maintenance.
- Prior experience with cloud computing platforms through python API (AWS, Azure, Google cloud) Successful startup experience and scaling a business are strongly desired.
