GENERAL SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Trauma Program Manager, the Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of trauma injury prevention education and trauma related community outreach prevention activities. This position is responsible for overall planning, development, implementation, coordination, overseeing, documentation and evaluation of all trauma related injury prevention education programming and community outreach activities to meet the Trauma Center designation and verification requirements as defined by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma and the State of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Must prioritize injury prevention strategies based on local trauma registry and epidemiologic data.
- Develops public awareness of injury prevention strategies and the Beaumont Health System by presenting and coordinating injury prevention programs for the community. Acts as resource for BHS Community Relations and Media relations teams in the area of injury prevention/safety. Represent BHS on committees on the local, county and national levels.
- Partners with community groups and agencies, public service organizations, other healthcare organizations, school districts, national organizations, and other system-based programs to deliver collaborative injury prevention programs to diverse populations.
- Keep accurate records of injury prevention activities and community benefit of those activities and provide annual reports to administrative teams and the American College of Surgeons for verification requirements.
- Monitors the effectiveness of injury prevention education activities by using measurable outcomes tools when possible.

- Education / Training:
- This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- Work Experience:
- Teaching &/or Leadership experience required.
- Two to three years clinical experience in trauma, emergency or intensive care setting.
- Public speaking/media interview skills preferred.
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office.
- Management experience preferred.
- Certification, Licensure, Registration:
- Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan required.
- Other Qualifications:
- This job has diverse tasks (program management, team building, internal and external collaboration, sound clinical knowledge and experience, public speaking). Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. Comfort with speaking to large, diverse groups in the community is essential. Self-direction also required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Physical Requirements:
- Requires considerable walking, standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- Required ability to frequently push/pull up to 30 lb objects. Occasionally requires ability to lift objects more than 50 lbs. Constantly lift objects up to 20 lbs.
- Requires ability to constantly perform simple gross motor and fine motor skills. Frequently perform moderately difficult manipulative skills. Requires ability to constantly perform gross motor body skills that require hand-eye coordination.
- Requires ability to constantly see objects near and far. Occasionally distinguish color identification.
- Requires ability to constantly hear normal sound including alarm sounds with some background noise.
Mental Requirements:
- Must concentrate on fine details over 60-90 minutes at a time despite environmental activity and frequent interruptions.
- Requires ability to constantly remember multiple tasks/assignments on a day-to-day basis.
- Work Environment:
- Seldom exposed to hazardous materials, bodily injuries, loud and/or unpleasant noises, high humidity, electrical hazards or poisonous substances. Frequently exposed to fluctuations in room temperature depending on training environment.
- Must be able to drive to off site / and or arrange transportation to community locations frequently for classes, assemblies, and seminars.
