What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dispatcher position at Becker Iron and Metal?
Over four generations, Becker Iron & Metal has emerged as one of the leading scrap metal recyclers in and beyond the Midwest and we're looking to add a new member to the team! Our current opening is for someone who is organized and can provide excellent customer service!
The Dispatcher schedules and assigns runs to drivers based on communications received.
What you'll do:
- Create a schedule based upon customer requests, buyers' requests, and company needs
- Schedule drivers based on material and equipment that needs to be picked up or delivered
- Answer incoming customer calls for requests throughout the day
- Maintain accuracy of the dispatch system by completing all data entry required in a timely and accurate manner
- Prioritize drivers' tasks efffectively
- Minimize downtime by coordinating with other departments on impending loads to ensure appropriate scheduling
- Provide backup assistance to scale operator and cashier as needed

Who we are looking for:
- Advanced reading and writing comprehension in English
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and computer software/programs
- Ability to multi-task in a challenging, fast-paced environment
- Previous experience scheduling or dispatching drivers is preferred
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Demands:
- Sit for extended periods and work on a computer
- Climb stairs
- Perform tasks that require both close vision and distance vision proficiency
