Description
To address the needs of the rapidly growing automation and controls industry, Beckhoff Automation is seeking an energetic Applications Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of the fastest growing technology companies in the automation and controls industry. Applications Engineers provide on-site engineering support to a wide variety of customers implementing Beckhoff Automation products. These talented individuals have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art controls in the design and programming of machines, such as automation software, industrial PCs, I/O, motors, robots, safety and visualization interfaces. This position is responsible to provide applications engineering support mainly to a specific customer account implementing Beckhoff Automation products. Candidates should have working knowledge and understanding of industrial automation equipment such PLCs, motion control, robotics, fieldbus systems and HMI. Besides that candidates with strong programming proficiency are preferred.
Responsibilities
• develop machine programs to customer specifications while having the ability to define what the specifications are
• advise customers on proper selection, use, maintenance, and training of technology for specific applications
• understand the customers’ needs while offering standard and custom training as subject matter experts to support our products and projects
• must be able to document and record all activity using established methods and tools

Required education and experience
• Bachelor of Science in business, engineering or related technical field from a four-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience, 2-5 years’ experience
• experience with programming languages IEC 61131-3 (object oriented extension), C#, etc. HTML5, JavaScript, TypeScript, C knowledge a plus
• understanding of PLCs, motion control, robotics, distributed I/O, fieldbus systems (EtherCAT) and HMI technologies
• experience with Windows, IT-networking and Microsoft Office applications
• self-starter with a results-driven personality
• strong analytical and reasoning skills to participate in a fast-paced, action-oriented team
• ability to work in a high stress environment while maintaining professionalism
• excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present to customers, companywide, and/or at departmental meetings
• approximately 25% travel
Preferred education and experience
• previous technical training or Beckhoff Automation experience
• Visual Studio and/or object-oriented programming in automation
• motion control experience
• experience with electrical schematics a plus
