Design Assistant
Mission:
To provide administrative and design support to the Design Director to organize samples, assist in sourcing and product development endeavors, finalize previous seasons, and prepare for collection development seasonally. Conducting consistent market research to provide competitive insights a must. Support Design Director with CAD designs for each category each season.
Scope:
This is an Assistant Designer role that will report to the Design Director and will be based on-site at the Partner location in San Francisco, CA. This position will have no direct reports.
Role Expectations:
The Design Assistant will be expected to consistently deliver top quartile outcomes for the following areas:
- Administrative support – Create and implement structure and process related to sample sorting, setup, and archiving. Support in managing timelines and scheduling for creative based meetings with the partner and internally.
- Sample organization and setup – In addition to sample sorting, setup, and archiving, this role is responsible for decorating fixtures at the headquarters to reflect current collections for analyzation purposes. Uploading and cleaning up images for virtual presentations and overall preparation for milestones meetings with the partner.
- Creative Support – Research topics pertaining to the collection and partner with the Design Director where needed to support overall vision for the season. Consistent market research to be conducted and presented back to the Design Director and creative team when capturing competitive insights and findings. Create CAD designs to support collection strategies for each category. Prepare supplier technical packets each season.
First Year Critical Outcomes:
- Understand the Partner’s brand aesthetic – Gain a true understanding of the Partner’s brand identity by actively immersing into the environment and absorbing and applying information learned to support design efforts. Apply learnings by assisting in research on topics pertaining to the collection, preparing technical packets for our suppliers while displaying an overall eagerness to learn and grow. (First 30 Days)
- Support creative processes and procedures – Support design process in organizing and sorting incoming jewelry/sunglasses samples and archiving outgoing samples. Decorate fixtures at headquarters to reflect current collections for analyzation purposes. Consistent communication with suppliers to source materials seasonally, prepare tech packs, support design efforts in adding in CAD sketches across all categories per direction from Design Director. (First 45 Days)
Critical Experiences:
- Demonstrated basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Recent graduate of, or current student in, a fashion or related program preferred.
