Position Profile
The Machine Operator I is responsible for the operation of machines in the Machine Shop by/which includes but is not limited to: the machining of parts according to production targets and problem solving. The ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator who is able to give and take constructive feedback, effectively collaborate with coworkers, and prioritize workflow in a fast paced environment while demonstrating a positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills. The Machine Operator I will work under the direct supervision of the Machine Shop & SMT Supervisor and at times the shop Lead, and will bring with them previous manufacturing experience.
Knowledge & Experience
1 year machining experience.
1 year manufacturing experience.
Ability to count accurately and do basic math.
Ability to use basic hand tools.
Ability to read fabrication drawings and Geometric, Dimensioning, & Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
Ability to communicate in English (Read, Speak, and Write).
Ability to communicate in English (Read, Speak, and Write).
Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft applications.
What you’ll do
Machining of parts with automatic and semi-automatic mills, drill presses, lathes, sanders, band saws, etc., ensuring production targets are met.
Work and collaborate with cross functional teams.
Participate in daily stand-up meeting to review department performance
Use lean manufacturing techniques to continuously improve processes such as 5S/6S, 8-wastes, standard work, one-piece-flow, problem solving, value stream, and Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) machine changeover methods.
Perform preventative maintenance and regular cleaning as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements
Single shift (up to 12 hours).
Ability to work overtime including weekends as required.
Manage, operate, and maintain machining equipment that produces 2,000-2,500 parts per week.
85-95% of daily time is spent operating machines.
Work performed in a machine shop contained within a ventilated non temperature-controlled warehouse (as low as 50°F in Winter, and up to 85°F in Summer). Heaters available during Winter months.
Standing while working about 95% of the day
Lifting of tooling (up to 40 lbs.) 5-7 times per day and inventory boxes (up to 30 lbs. or more) 5-7 times per day.
Use of all applicable PPE is required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $19.79 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
