GENERAL SUMMARY
The Peer Specialist is responsible for engaging with individuals and facilitating their participation in their recovery. The overall goal is to help individuals who have a serious mental illness achieve their maximum potential while living in the community. The Peer Specialist strives to empower individuals served to take control of their lives in order to develop self-worth, life and work skills, self-esteem, and dignity and pride.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Meets new individuals to orient them to peer support services.
- Helps individuals develop WRAP, or other wellness and recovery plans.
- Acts as part of a team, sharing knowledge and experience with all team members in order to assist individuals served while working collaboratively with colleagues.
- Completes contact notes in a timely fashion.
PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of six months experience in human services preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle available for all working hours.
- Demonstrates a willingness to update professional experience.
- Maintains job effectiveness under changing conditions.
