Job Summary:
The Operations Manager is responsible for leading 24/7 plant production and maintenance teams to deliver the production plan within the expected P&L and quality standard levels. The Operations Manager is a key member of the plant Steering Team, plant management team, and safety committee. The Operations Manager is responsible for developing the leadership and technical skills of the Maintenance Manager and Production Supervisors. The Operations Manager has primary responsibility for modeling and ensuring commitment to a robust safety culture while also ensuring commitment to food compliance and environmental standards.

Job Responsibilities & Tasks:
- Responsible for a food manufacturing operation that operates 24 hours/day, 7 days/week
- Diligently seek to identify and mitigate any safety or food safety hazards in the workplace
- Actively participate in investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes
- Conduct regular behavior-based Safety Dialogues
- Participate actively on the Plant Safety Committee
- Ensure finished product quality is within company and customer defined specifications
- Ensure financial results for plant production and maintenance departments
- Constantly seek for new ways to improve the plant’s production efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Participate actively in financial planning activities (Business Plan, Budget, Reforecast)
- Ensure effective raw materials and packaging management
- Deliver accurate consumption of raw materials and packaging
- Establish processes which minimize loss of packaging and raw materials during production.
- Achieve production planning targets to ensure business commitments are met
- Engage the plant maintenance team to ensure the maintenance and servicing of equipment and systems to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency and work life.
- Champion the implementation of continuous improvement methodologies and processes.
- Support commercialization of new product and innovation launches.
- Manage, direct and lead the Maintenance Manager and Supervisors (production and sanitation) in the carry out of their responsibilities.
- Be a champion and train supervisors to champion employee safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and discipline in following established procedures.
- Set objectives for the operation, measure and evaluate performance, and maintain accountability for individual performance
- Identify and establish training plans for direct reports to ensure that the right skill sets are developed to support the business through these plans
- Ensure that Visual Performance Animation (VPA) communication meetings are occurring according to standard protocols.
- Ensure adherence to industrial safety processes, company policy and other regulatory standards.
- Ensure that training standards are rigorously applied and that training is conducted according to published standard operating procedures.
- Participate actively as a member of the plant steering committee and leadership team
- Participate actively in the industrial development of the plant
- Identify, participate in and lead continuous improvement activities/initiatives and projects

Position Requirements:
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required
- Lean 6 Sigma Black Belt Certification is highly desirable
- 10 yrs. manufacturing leadership as a supervisor or manager in the Food or Pharmaceutical industry
- Experience leading production and maintenance functions within a manufacturing complex, continuous flow manufacturing operation.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems.
- Demonstrated ability to meet operational goals while also fostering a positive work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop Supervisors to be effective in their roles and responsibilities.
- Strong commitment to employee safety and food safety.
- Ability to understand technical processes and automated mechanical equipment.
- Must have the ability to synthesize complex data in order to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Strong interpersonal communication, leadership, training and coaching skills.
- Ability to navigate difficult personnel challenges effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively both internally and externally.
- Ability to lead thru influence and gain buy-in from others.
- Must be able to adapt in a rapidly changing environment.
- Must be able to understand how the various business departments work together in order to effectively manage projects.
- Must have a passion for being on the production floor and being actively involved in production at the ground level.
- Must have solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills (MS Office, ERP systems)
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
- Must be able work in normal office conditions and in the manufacturing plant
- Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required in the manufacturing plant
