Job Summary
A shipping clerk’s purpose is to handle administrative tasks and any assignments as provided by the shift supervisors and lead. The shipping clerk works effectively and efficiently to schedule shipping and freight operations including generating proper, detailed and accurate shipping documentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following; other duties may be assigned
- Printing and processing customer orders to determine number of pallets and communicating with transportation on number of loads
- Prepare shipping documents and schedule freight pickups & deliveries as required
- Organizing and signing driver’s paperwork
- Communicating with customer service and production planning and handling any customer add-on’s or planned shortages
- Communicating with security and the yard jockey to move trailers in and out of the dock
- Preparing customer specific items for order i.e. temperature recorders
- Operate ERP software (currently Business Central) to create driver Bill of Ladings and customer Pro Forma Invoices as well as view current inventories.
- Proactive in helping in warehouse as designated by supervisor
- Communicate with drivers and carriers related to schedules, pickups, etc.
- Updates reports, spreadsheets and other forms of communication on a daily basis
- Problem solves for customers and suppliers about shipping routes, delayed items, and rush orders
- Performs administrative duties such as answering phones, updating records, and providing excellent customer service
- Occasionally assist in Cycle counting inventory according to established guidelines and assist with developing actions to correct inventory problems.
- Take a proactive role in assuring safe, quality products are produced by immediately addressing any safety or quality concerns.
