Location: Troutdale, OR 12-hour Nightshift, 6 pm - 6 am. 4 days on, 3 days off one week, and 3 days on, 4 days off the next. SUMMARY The Operator/Technician is based at Bell and Howell’s remote service location and will report directly to the District Service Manager for that location. This position has overall responsibility for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting a variety of machines and/or equipment at customer site(s) in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reads and interprets blueprints and diagrams to select, position and secure machinery. Adjusts machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in a timely fashion. Ensures operational requirements are met in the set-up operation and the use of customer equipment and related product materials. Aids the Customer Service Team by performing scheduled preventive maintenance and minimal troubleshooting/repairing. Maintains equipment by following manufacturer’s recommendations on maintenance and operations under close direction/supervision. Maintains customer equipment by scheduling and performing regular preventive maintenance inspections on equipment, performing routine servicing to machines, reporting machine safety hazards to local supervisor. Maintains and expands technical knowledge by attending product training classes, reading service updates and bulletins, system machine schematics, etc. Continues to enhance value to the company by staying technically current, i.e. attending continuing education courses in such areas as: electronics, computer skills, etc. Assists with parts finishing and cleaning operations as required. Helps maintain raw material/supplied material staging area. Assures sufficient tools and equipment are on hand to efficiently perform assigned tasks. Maintains a clean, safe, and efficient working environment by following established safety procedures and rules; proper operation of equipment; reporting preventive maintenance requirements on equipment; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; request need for repairs; keeping equipment, tools, and supplies in a neat and orderly fashion; maintaining appropriate supply levels. Maintains confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential, protecting printed documentation per established policies and procedures. Contributes to team efforts by assisting production unit in achieving common objectives in a cooperative and supportive manner. Ability to maintain regular attendance and be punctual. REQUIREMENTS: Education and Experience: High School degree or equivalent required. Degree in electronics, advanced mechanics and/or software training with 1 year related industry/equipment experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Computer program functionality and software troubleshooting skills preferred. Associates or certificate in mechanical/electrical/electronic drawing preferred. Travel: This position may require some travel for training purposes. Physical Requirements: Ability to work weekends, holidays and overtime as required. Ability to use standard and specialized hand, power and diagnostic tools and measuring equipment, such as oscilloscopes, DMM, gauges, etc. Ability to operate large machinery. Requires lifting to seventy (70) pounds. Requires walking and standing; using hands to feel objects; reaching; and requires balance. Requires stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling. Ability to work in a loud environment. Ability to work in small, cramped areas. Ability to work in elevated environment up to twenty (20) feet. Work is performed in a controlled office, retail, and manufacturing environment; noise within acceptable safety levels; paper dust prevalent; cleaners and solvents used to clean machines; machines contain moving parts.
