Job Summary:
Responsible for performing designated services within a clinical setting. Refer to essential functions for definition of designated services. Services are provided at the Temple, Killeen, Copperas Cove, Ft. Cavazos and Call Center locations. Services are provided under the direct supervision of the Site Leader, Nutrition Education Coordinator, Assistant WIC Director, and/or WIC Director.
Essential Functions:
- Certifies potentially eligible clients to receive program benefits and prescribes food packages following the appropriate policies. Takes and evaluates diet recalls in accordance with guidelines.
- Counsels participants/parents/guardians regarding the reason(s) for qualification, the length of certification, and individual nutritional needs.
- Refers clients to appropriate programs and other community resources as needed.
- Under the direction of the NE Coordinator, administers nutrition activities, which include teaching NE classes and conducting individual counseling following the approved NE plan.
- Evaluates need for, and issues breast pumps according to individual client needs.
- Evaluates and approves/disapproves non-contract formula prescriptions according to policy.
- Travels to other WIC sites as assigned.
- Performs clerical duties as needed to ensure smooth workflow.
- Assists Program Director/NE Coordinator in various administrative and NE duties as assigned.
- Conducts WIC outreach as assigned.
- If assigned, weighs and measures clients according to the guidelines, takes a blood sample for a hemoglobin/hematocrit test according to guidelines, and accurately plots growth charts.
- Accurately completes all NE modules as assigned.
- Supports and follows Site Leader’s, NE Coordinator’s, and WIC Director’s decisions.
- Assists Site Leader as needed.
- Performs other related office duties as needed.
- Serves as part of public health emergency response efforts, as needed

Requirements:
· Must have valid Texas driver’s license.
- Must have own transportation.
- Must have telephone.
- Requires ability to lift clinic supplies, educational materials and machines.
- Prolonged standing, sitting, or driving may be required.
- Increased risk for exposure to and possible transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases/tuberculosis.
- Must have appropriate immunizations according to BCPHD policy.
- Limited access to clinical lab areas containing biohazardous material.
Minimal Qualifications:
- Licensed vocational nurse (LVN), licensed to practice in Texas;
- Registered nurse (RN) with Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an associate degree
- Nutritionist with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in any of the following:
- Nutrition Sciences;
- Human Nutrition or Dietetics;
- Community Nutrition;
- Public Health Nutrition;
- Clinical Nutrition;
- Home Economics with Food and Nutrition major with 24-semester hours credit in food & nutrition
- Home economics or other degreed professionals with 12 or more semester hours credit in food & nutrition and 6 semester hours of science from an accredited university
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $16.47 per hour
