Job Title: Dance Instructor
Reports to: Studio Owner
Effective Date: August 15, 2023
Job Summary:
Essential duties are planning and conducting classes, monitoring student progress, providing constructive criticism and praise, coordinating with staff for rehearsals and recitals, and minimizing injury risks.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
● Make decisions regarding the time frame for dancers to move up levels.
● Possible Addendums are available for managing teacher’s assistants, social media, creating or updating curriculum, and other clerical duties.
Duties/Responsibilities:
● Instruct technique classes for a variety of ages (3-adult) and ability range in foundation classes, such as ballet, tap, and jazz. Possible instruction in specialty classes such as hip hop, acro and musical theatre.
● Choreograph class routines for each class in the annual recital.
● Coordinate with other faculty to ensure consistency across levels.
● Communicate effectively with students: explaining and demonstrating individual movements, sequences, and concepts to dance students.
● Incorporate safe practices: teach warm-up and cool-down exercises and routines that are in line with current teaching practices for injury prevention.
● Encourage student growth: Document students’ progression, providing feedback and advice.

● Teaching methodology - Select and use training/instructional strategies and procedures appropriate for the situation, genre, and developmental age.

● Teamwork- the ability to support others and be part of the studio family.

● Active Listening - Give full attention to what other people are saying, take time to understand the points being made, ask questions as appropriate, and not interrupt.

Education and Experience:
Preferred:
● BA or BFA major or minor in Dance
Necessary:
● Advanced training in ballet, tap, and/or jazz
