POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The position of Bus Attendant is for the purpose of monitoring and maintaining student safety for general education students so they arrive at and depart from schools in a safe manner.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
• Monitors daily school bus activities to ensure proper student conduct at all times, and adherence to acceptable standards for the District.
• May assist with routine cleaning and bus maintenance activities, to include attending to spills and cleaning of body fluids.
• Communicates issues or concerns with drivers, supervisors and administrators in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
• Reports directly to and is supervised by Director of Transportation or designee.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
Required:
• High School Diploma, or G.E.D
Preferred:
• Previous experience working directly with students

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):
• Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR Certifications within 30 days of employment.
KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):
• Customer service principles.
• First aid practices.
• Communication and intervention strategies to use with students and parents.
SKILLS (position requirements at entry):
• Providing customer service;
• Maintaining order among students on a bus;
• Operating, maneuvering and/or controlling the actions of safety restraint and wheelchair lift devices
• Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
• Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse populations
• Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements
• Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a general posting for one or more Bus Attendant positions.
2024-25 Transportation Personnel salary classification (starting at $ 27.59 hour, 6 hours per day, 30 hours per week for a 192 day annual schedule). This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life-insurance eligibility is based upon 630 hours worked within a school year. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems. Other benefits include vacation and paid holidays.
