Title: LTS - Substantially Separate Special Education Teacher (Foundational
Learning Center - FLC Program) (Grades K-3)
Location: 1.0 FTE Stall Brook Elementary School
Reports to: Principal and work collaboratively with the Elementary BCBA
Job Goals: To teach children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down Syndrome, Intellectual
Impairments, and a variety of other Developmental Delays and Developmental
Disabilities using evidence-based instructional practices based on the principles of
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), to ensure that students gain skills in the areas
of academics, functional communication, life skills, and social skills, with the goal
of building independence in all areas of their lives.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively as a member of the educational team
- Develop and implement Individual Educational Programs (IEPs)
- Collect and analyze data to develop and implement skill acquisition programs based on ABA principals (including, but not limited to, Discrete Trial Teaching programs, Task Analyses, Incidental Teaching, and Verbal Behavior)
- Develop measurable goals and objectives in all domains of learning
- Conduct behavioral observations and collaborate with the BCBA to complete Functional Behavioral Assessments and develop Behavior Plans
- Assist in the development and implementation of Behavior Plans
- Develop, coordinate, and oversee student program components for Paraeducators working with students
- Develop student and paraeducator schedules within the classroom
- Consult with BCBA, Paraeducators, Special Education and Regular Education teachers and related service providers
- Ensure that all components of the students’ IEPs are implemented
- Collect and analyze data towards progress of the IEP goals and objectives including both skill acquisition and behavior management data
- Consult with and assist inclusion teachers in meeting the diverse needs of students within the general and special education settings
- Utilizing the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the Common Core Standards, develop and implement modified curriculum
- Assess progress of effectiveness of curriculum modifications and behavior plans
- Consult with team members regarding curriculum modifications, accommodations, and social skills
- Administer and interpret standardized and informal assessments and write assessment reports
- Attend IEP team meetings
- Implement federal and state special education laws, regulations, and mandates
- Communicate effectively with parents
- Participate in district-wide and program-specific Professional Development, as needed
- Assume such responsibilities as assigned by the Principal, Director of Student Services, BCBA
- Adheres to the adopted policy of the Bellingham School Committee
- Any other duties and responsibilities as directed by Principal, Director of Student Services
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of state and federal special education laws, regulations and mandates.
- Work collaboratively with staff, parents, administrators.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Knowledge of Autism spectrum disorders and best practices and ability to implement social skills groups.
- Ability to implement and utilize positive behavioral intervention strategies.
- Is physically able to participate and complete the District’s Behavioral Safety Training Program: SafetyCare, as well as CPR training and meet the Physical Employment Requirements of both.
- MA DESE Special Education Certification Required.
