Bellingham Technical College is seeking a temporary adjunct instructor to teach hydraulics in the Diesel Technology program spring quarter, April 26 – May 30, 2024. Potential additional Diesel Technology instructional opportunities may also be available upon hire. Position reports to the Dean of Professional Technical Education.
Teaching content of the hydraulics course will include the basic operation of hydraulic/pneumatic systems, with the emphasis on preventive maintenance and logical troubleshooting, performed in both a classroom and shop setting.

- Teach courses during the times and dates specified by the academic schedule;
- Provide an updated course syllabus for each class taught,
- Instruct pre-developed curriculum relating to mobile hydraulics (fundamentals, operation, and diagnostics);

Minimum Qualifications:
- Two or more years of relevant experience work and/or teaching experience (within the last three years) in the diesel industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Deisel Technology or related field;
- Supervisory or mentor experience;
- Specialty/high level of experience with hydraulics.

Physical Work Environment:
This assignment requires being mobile and standing for long periods of time; walking, stooping, bending and lifting; manual dexterity; repeated pushing, pulling and lifting of 50 or more pounds; bending, twisting, crouching, kneeling, and squatting; reaching below knees, knees to shoulders, above shoulder; moving freely from one building to another; and work both classroom and shop environments.Compensation:
Adjunct pay will be determined according to the current negotiated salary schedule. A 9 credit, 121 hour course (77 lecture, 44 lab) would be compensated at $7,698.02 ($63.62 per hour). Rate of pay includes payment for extra duties required for the teaching, prep-time, meetings, office hours, and professional functions associated with this assignment.
The following benefits are in accordance with the Bellingham Education Association (BEA) and subject to change with each negotiated contact. Current BEA contract expires June 30, 2025. Benefits include paid sick leave. Sick leave is accrued based on their contracted FTEF multiplied by 7.5 hour for each month in active teaching status. In addition, if eligible, a 5% per hour more above the teaching rate doctoral stipend if teaching a five credit or more course (not paid on contract training, community or continuing ed courses); In addition, a 5% Longevity premium rate after teaching 1375 hours at BTC.
