Assistant Director of Residence Life

The Assistant Director of Residence Life is responsible for the operations and assignments of (7) on campus residential communities and will provide guidance and leadership to the Office of Residence Life. The position reports to the Director of Residence Life.

Specific Accountabilities:

• Trains and supports professional Residence Life staff to ensure they are well equipped to provide the best possible service to students in the residence halls.
• Creates and manages the housing application and selection processes for new and returning students.
• Maintains accurate assignment information for all residence halls
• Trains and supports Resident Assistants and their programming efforts to equip them with the skills and abilities necessary to handle most situations on their own.
• Contributes to the recruitment and selection of Resident Assistants.
• Holds conduct hearings to enforce acceptable sanctions aimed at eliminating repeated behaviors. Works with repeat offenders on solutions/options to help students correct future behaviors and become successful.
• Maintains the overall well being of students living in residence halls through a variety of efforts which includes coordination with Campus Police and Maintenance.
• Utilizes PowerCampus and The Housing Director (THD) to ensure proper billing through the Business Office.
• Provides room changes and updates PowerCampus and other housing software with current data.
• Handles a variety of people to people contact and provides hospitality and customer service at all times.
• Collaborates with campus offices to provide appropriate break housing for students.

The ideal candidate will have at least three (3) years progressive experience in residence life management, student disciplinary procedures, and residential community development and at minimum a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. The ideal candidate must understand, support, and value the building of a residential and student community dedicated to a robust Catholic vision and the hallmarks of a Benedictine education. The Assistant Director of Resident Life must have strong relationship building skills and a strong moral compass.

The incumbent must be a valiant spokesperson for student life grounded in a Catholic, Benedictine character, while also being able to communicate policies, procedures, and the values of the institution to a broad spectrum of students who may be unfamiliar with those values. The Assistant Director of Residence Life should have an understanding of and enthusiasm for bringing about the principles of Ex Corde Ecclesiae through the on-campus experience. The incumbent will have an exemplary work ethic, be able to motivate Residence Life staff and students, understand the “big picture,” while also not afraid to roll up his or her sleeves to do the organizational work that will build a residential student community that nourishes the mind, body, and spirit of the whole student.
