Job Posting for Assistant Dog Warden at Belmont County Animal Shelter
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Promote public awareness of the Belmont County Animal Shelter policy and animal control statutes.
Act professionally in all aspects of the job.
Perform general maintenance of the shelter and shelter vehicles.
Be able to select animals for euthanasia if necessary.
See that diseased or injured animals are reported and treated by a veterinarian. Prevent suffering of animals and promote safety practices.
Know and follow the chain of command.
Must have ability to lift or carry heavy dogs and/or large bags of food or liter.
Oversee volunteers and outside agency workers to promote good safety practices and humane treatment of the animals. Animal abuse of any kind will not be tolerated. Any and all problems are to be reported immediately to the Shelter Supervisor.
Enforce ORC statues for regulation of animal control. For example: patrol the county, issue citations to violators, conduct license checks, impound stray animals and owner's animals running at-large, investigate complaints, work closely with the Health Department on dog bite cases, record animal sales and related fees, investigate livestock kills by dogs or coyotes and send reports to appropriate agency. Maintain records of animals kept at the shelter. Know and follow the Belmont County guidelines in adoption practices.
Any other duties as assigned.
Experience, Education, and Training
High school education or GED
Requirements
Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license
