CNC Horizontal Mill Operator I

We are currently recruiting for a CNC Horizontal Mill Operator I to join the Benchmade Knife Company team. The CNC Horizontal Mill Operator is responsible for the set up and operation one or more CNC milling machines for routine production, new products, and prototype product. 

This role positions and secures tooling/holding devices, while also loading program, checking machine operation and observing operation progress.  The CNC Horizontal Mill Operator also changes set ups and tools and replaces dull or broken tools as required.  This role will require the use of precision measuring instruments to check accuracy of work, as well as performing minor maintenance on the machine. 

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

• Load and unload parts into standard fixtures maintaining clean, chip and burr free surfaces.
• Load and tram in fixtures and machine vise jaws.
• Inspect manufactured parts to PCI, identify dimensional and cosmetic quality issues, and make necessary tool changes, offsets, or minor edits to correct the problem.
• Manage tool life by identifying signs of tool wear and making corrections before parts go out of print
• Perform set up inspection verification for other operators.
• Load and understand program structure, with full capability to read and understand G code.
• Perform routine maintenance (coolant changes, cleaning of machine, fill way oil, etc)
• Perform necessary secondary operations as required.
• Perform base alignment and probe qualification, using CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine).
• Cross-train in other manufacturing areas to understand how upstream and downstream processes affect and are affected by the CNC milling process
• Keep up in fast pace production environment while still maintaining strict quality standards.
• Follow standard operating procedures including documentation
• Take ownership of area, ensuring cleanliness and organization standards are met or exceeded
• Work with other mill operators to drive towards continuous improvement applying lean manufacturing principles to all aspects of job function.
• Communicate potential process improvements or problems to supervisor and work with engineers to improve or correct issue.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• A High School Diploma or GED equivalent, and 3-4 years of CNC vertical or horizontal manufacturing experience in a fast-paced production environment is required. Equivalency to the qualification standard will also be considered.
• Certificate in Manufacturing Technology a plus.
• Good general math skills, and able to understand and follow written/oral instructions in English.
• Familiarity with Haas and Mori controllers a plus
• Experience in use and selection of proper inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicator, refractometer)
• General understanding of Cartesian coordinate system
• Understand CNC program structure with intermediate knowledge of G Code
• Experience in fixture set-up, adjustments, and set-up verification
• Understand blueprints and basic understanding of GD&T
• Strong communication and problem solving skills with the ability to understand when results were not as expected and determine potential root cause
• Emphasis on quality with keen attention to detail
