The Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) in training recognizes demonstrated competence in analyzing the needs of consumers with disabilities, assisting in the selection of appropriate assistive technology for the consumer’s needs, and providing training in the use of the selected device(s).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for obtaining both the educational and work experience requirements outlined in the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA). Please refer to resna.org for requirements needed to sit for the exam
Work in concert with staff ATP, vendors, clinicians, VGM, and all RESNA resources to ensure training requirements are met.
Under the Physicians, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, or Equipment Services Manager’s direction conducts evaluations, assessments, and other direct-to-consumer (needs assessment, physical/functional/sensory assessments, educational assessments, site assessments, simulations and product trials).
Interprets the results of various evaluations to determine how abilities relate to the use of assistive technology
Assesses the environmental impact, both physical and social as related to the potential use of the assistive technology and evaluates the tasks, functional demands and resources within the environments
Provides fitting, adjustment and readjustment services (fine tuning of equipment to meet the consumer needs and reflect changes in the consumer status)
Implements and trains consumers/caregivers and/ or support personnel in the use of assistive technology or strategies to maximize function and interface with the environment(s) of use, Provides instruction in use and/or maintenance of products and technology)
Assists the consumer in clarifying and prioritizing their goals
Interprets the results of various evaluations to determine how abilities relate to the use of assistive technology and accounts for the consumer’s possible future needs
Refers to and works with other professionals when appropriate. The Team Process is a critical element, since no one individual can meet all of the needs in assistive technology service delivery. Each role of the service provider requires extensive collaboration with other professionals, family members, and consumers.
Provides Purchasing Agent with the proper information to order wheelchairs, adaptive equipment or repair parts in a timely manner based on the specifications provided by the clinician.
Marketing of the wheelchair and rehab rehabilitation services to the Great Falls community, the county service area and appropriate Physicians and Clinicians.
Ensures physician orders are complete and address the medical necessity of the consumer.
Works with therapists to ensure that physician orders are followed and the appropriate equipment is provided.
Knowledgeable of Local, State and Federal regulations and activities relating to reimbursement and regulations for rehabilitative services.
Performs and/or participates in projects, systems development and other meetings involving Benefis Spectrum Medical Rehab services.
Works with the Patient Business Services on preauthorization and reimbursement criteria for assistive technology products and stays abreast of current allowable amounts and reimbursement issues for such products.
Participates actively in professional organizations and personal and professional growth.
Maintains ones professional competency via continuing education courses and publications as needed.
Acts as a liaison between Benefis Spectrum Medical, and other medical professionals on all issues in respect to wheelchairs and rehab equipment.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.

Education/Experience Requirements:
Associates Degree in rehab science. Bachelor Degree in related field preferred..
Valid Montana driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Certification candidates must pass a written exam based on assistive technology job knowledge and skills. The 200-question exam is four hours in length
