BEPC has an open position for an Animal Care Core in Ramona, CA!
Contract W2 Period: 4-month contract with possibilities for extensions
Pay & Benefits: $21.00/hr. Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance.
Activities include, all aspects of research, technology development, product development, solution development and testing.
Responsible for the daily care of research animals for experimental purposes.
Work in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice.

EXPERIENCE:
Requires some formal training or practical experience in addition to training on the job.
ORGANIZATION:
Reports to a Manager role (for a defined period of time), will have a lead person for day-to-day guidance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Handle and restrain animals safely and humanely.
Follow all operating procedures, as well as USDA and local, state, and federal regulations as trained.
Provide routine care for animals as assigned, including daily food, water, and husbandry care.
Observe animals daily for health, environmental conditions, social environment, and impacts from antibody production protocols and report concerns or changes to area supervisor
Provide ad hoc administration of prescribed medications.
Perform routine preventative care and maintenance of animals including vaccinations, hoof care, weight checks, and identification markings.
Perform scheduled production activities including immunizations and blood collection
Maintain legible and accurate animal care records and individual animal identification within prescribed manual and database systems.
Provide enrichment for all species.
Provide support during veterinarian visits.
Inspect animal enclosures and feeding/watering devices.
Complete routine cleaning of animal housing areas by manual and mechanical methods, including removal of excrement and sanitation of enclosures.
Perform work in accordance with EHS requirements and report hazardous conditions and/or equipment failures following established procedures.
Clean procedure rooms, equipment, and instruments.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES:
May involve lifting or moving up to 100 pounds unassisted and frequent standing, kneeling, or stooping.
May involve exposure to needles and bloodborne pathogens through routine animal care.
Applicable personal protective equipment may include, but is not limited to, safety glasses, N95 mask and steel-toe boots.
The temperature of the work environment may be highly variable (hot or cold) for extended periods of time.
Education and experience:
High school diploma/equivalent required plus 1-3 yrs. relevant work experience recommended.
