What are the responsibilities and job description for the HP CTE Counselor position at BERGEN COMM COLLEGE?
Serves as a member of the Health Professions Student Success Team responsible for evaluating the needs of students interested in health professions careers. Advises students on health-related career pathways, offering recommendations and reviewing educational services with students and faculty members. Collaborates with faculty to create an educational/career development plan to support the students’ career and academic goals pursuant to the terms of the Perkins Grant.
This is a grant-funded position to support career and technical education students in the health professions career pathways. The renewal date for this position is 6/30/23.
- Works with the Health Professions faculty and program directors to establish a comprehensive written guidance and academic counseling program describing the program and services to be provided.
- Implements an academic counseling program.
- Delivers counseling services for students on-site at Bergen Community College in The Health Professions Integrated Teaching Center.
- Conducts workshops for focused advisement initiatives.
- Creates individualized student academic action plans that emphasize career goals and necessary support services.
- Provides ongoing onsite assistance to ensure that students are receiving necessary academic support.
- Prepares end of semester reports outlining specific activities and outcomes in the Health professions counseling area.
- Works closely with the Health Professions faculty and staff to support student success in health career programs as well as in pathways to these careers.
- Participates in the intake and assessment of incoming students to support student retention.
- Conducts group workshops on college and career readiness.
- Works with the Dean of Health Professions to plan and implement monthly Health Professions Student networking sessions.
- Assists with service learning opportunities for Health Professions students.
- Knowledge of college admission and financial aid processes required.
- Communicates effectively and has the ability to listen and respond to the concerns/ideas of others.
- Possesses strong organizational skills.
- Assists health professions students with resume writing workshops and mock interviews to prepare for employment.
- Is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the healthcare fields.
- Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned by the Dean of Health Professions and/or the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs or designee.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Demonstrates understanding of the community college mission. Has basic proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite.

Master’s Degree in Student Personnel Administration, Counselor Education, Social Work, Vocational Rehabilitation or other related areas required. Must have excellent interpersonal skills; bilingual a plus.
Minimum of two years of counseling in a higher educational institution.
Salary : $49,700 - $62,900
