SUMMARY

 

 Global Precision Systems, LLC (GPS), a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation, is currently seeking a qualified Electronics Technician/Locksmith for the El Centro Facility O&M contract in Southern California. The Electronics/Locksmith Technician will be responsible for preventative and corrective maintenance for all necessary equipment throughout the El Centro DHS/Ice Facility.

$28.64 per hour

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Electronics / Locksmith  duties include performing work requiring the application of electronic principles and practices involving the installation, maintenance, calibration, repair, programming, and modification of a variety of electronic and computerized equipment including surveillance / camera equipment, electronic storage / issuance equipment (MORSE KeyWatcher Systems), gate / access controls, test equipment, computers, monitors, televisions, audiovisual equipment, alarm systems, telephone interconnect and switching equipment, data terminals and printing systems, grounding systems and surge protection equipment. Duties also include maintaining and repairing locks, maintaining records of assigned keys, preventive maintenance as required. Locating parts / equipment needed and submitting quotes for review.

Installs, trouble shoots, performs preventive maintenance and services cameras, computers, monitors, inductors, switches used for the operation of the video surveillance system. Trouble shoots, services, repairs, and conducts preventive maintenance on the electronic components for locking hardware and vehicle / pedestrian gates and is operating control system, to include call boxes and intercoms. Runs conductors, makes terminals, and connects electronic components as needed (ie, wiring for cameras, intercoms, gate controllers). Conduct inspections of camera system to identify discrepancies and correct as they are identified.  Installs, repairs, and maintains cylinder and bit key locks; makes or cuts keys or cylinder and bit locks, cabinet locks, and padlocks; opens locks; changes lock combinations; repairs or replaces tumblers, springs, and other parts; keeps records on location of keys for each lock; maintains security of duplicate keys; as required, performs related installation and repair of door closers, door checks, door knobs, casement operators, and door strikes; services, repairs, installs gate controllers and gate hardware; fabricate hardware to install locking devices;; maintain historic information on existing lock hardware; maintain accurate reports and inventories of all equipment, tools, supplies  in the lockshop. Locating and obtaining quotes for needed materials and hardware. Other duties as requested.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION.

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications (applies to both this section and KSAO’s)

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: experienced in working and servicing electronics equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of the principles of electronics including fundamentals of electricity. Knowledge of the methods and materials used in repair and maintenance of electronic instruments and devices. Ability to read and interpret complex diagrams and specifications, and to modify complex electronic instruments and devices. Minimum 2 years work experience as Electronics Technician in complex with central communications plant.
  • 5 years of experience as a locksmith in a correctional or commercial facility dealing with High Security Locks (ie. ASSA, Falcon / Best, Fortress, Southern Steel, ADTEC, CPC). Completion of an approved vocational training program in locksmithing may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience on a month- for-month basis; or experience in a recognized apprenticeship program involving 2,000 hours per year may be substituted on a month-for- month basis for the entire two-year experience requirement. Must have a current and active Locksmith License issued by the State of California. Experience using Oxygen / Acetylene cutting tools, Circular Saw and various types of welding processes.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  •          Knowledge of: Methods, material, tools, and equipment used in trade of a locksmith. 
  • Ability to: Read shop drawings and work from plans and specifications; understand and carry out oral and/or written directions; read and write at a level appropriate to the classification. Communicate effectively at a level necessary to establish and maintain a professional and cooperative relationship with individuals or groups. Understand and carry out oral and /or written instructions under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor.

 Assignments during tour of duty may include sole responsibility for the Supervision of tools and equipment in presence of inmates.

DOT COVERED/SAFETY-SENSITIVE ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation “safety-sensitive” functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

GPS operates from an office space inside the DHS/Ice Secured facility from which we base our operations. Technicians will report to this office daily for assignments.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
