MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1 High School Diploma or GED
2. Graduate of training program for Certified Surgical Technologists (AST certification preferred)ORgraduate of L.P.N. Program
3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
4. Active certification as a Certified Technologist

1. Assists surgeon when necessary.Assist with immediate pre and post op care of patient, equipment and instrumentation.Second circulates as assigned.
2. Provides patients with basic care by performing technical skills in an aseptic manner.
3. Utilizes quality aseptic technique when working in an unsterile role or in the OR.
4. Assists the circulating RN in monitoring technique of all persons in the OR to maintain a sterile field.
5. Performs sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating RN following established guidelines.
6. Assists by gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments.
7. Passes sterile instruments to the surgical team during a surgical procedure.
8. Processes supplies, instruments and equipment in patient care.
9. Demonstrates knowledge of conditions, disease and therapies for patient population of department.
10.Assures quality patient care is maintained by participating in and keeping informed of unity and hospital committees, unit staff meetings, and other related activities.
11. Prepares supplies and equipment for surgical procedure following preference cards.
12. Assist with sterilization and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.
13. Monitors inventory; orders; and restocks supplies, instruments, and equipment.
14. Assists with the general cleaning duties of the department.
15. Performs equipment checks as assigned.
16.Accurately performs clerical, technical, and computer functions specific for assigned department or unit.Is willing to learn and apply the appropriate computer software programs utilized in the department.
17. Maintains accurate and appropriate records as directed.Utilizes the computer to process the patient requisitions.Enters patient and procedure information as required by various departments.Completes computer workflow functions.Organizes the workload for the area.
18. Provides and assists in the safe transport of patients, using proper and good body mechanics.
19. Monitors and converses with the patient to ensure patient comfort and safety, notifying RN, LPN, or supervisor of special needs, and assisting patients as needed.Gives explanations at a level patient will understand.
20. Knowledgeable of specialized equipment for the service departments and technically assists in the performance of the procedure, as permitted by the service department.
21. Demonstrates good organizational and time management skills to effectively balance patient treatment needs, documentation, and educational requirements.Manages time effectively to maximize the volume of patients.
22. Follows hospital, state and federal guidelines for ensuring safe environment for workers, patients and public.Maintains and monitors staff compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures for safety, security, and infection control.Including privacy, patient confidentiality and HIPAA.
23. Ensures the facilities and equipment for patient services are maintained to promote comfort, efficiency and safety for patients and staff.Documents and reports malfunctioning equipment immediately to appropriate management staff and Biomedical Department.
24. Communicates and interacts with patients, families, visitors, physicians, departmental and hospital staff and the public in general in a manner that demonstrates professionalism and concern for the individuals' need(s).
25. Obtains work related annual education and competencies education on a yearly basis.Utilizes that knowledge in the development and improvement of staff and treatments, promoting high standards of patient care and support services.
26.Actively participates in in-services, staff meetings, continuing education courses, hospital wide committees and other meetings as needed or required.
27. Functions efficiently in Preceptor role - recognizes technician orienteer's weak points and makes assignments appropriately for OR procedures.
28.Participates in Quality initiatives to help assess and improve the services provided and compliance with regulatory requirements. Reports results to appropriate administrative levels.
29. Maintains proper completion and maintenance of sterilizer logs on a daily basis.
30. Willingly accepts assignments within scope of practice, skill set and level of competence.
