Berklee Library and Learning Resources is seeking a qualified person for the position of Digital Repositories Librarian. This new role, under the oversight of the Associate Director, Archives & Special Collections, will be responsible for creating and managing digital repositories and online collections. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and forward thinker, fully comfortable with the suite of technologies currently used to manage digital repositories in academia, who will work closely with members of the Archives, Content and Media Services, and Collection Strategies teams within the Berklee Library.
Job Responsibilities
Develop and operationalize workflows, procedures, and policies for Berklee’s burgeoning institutional repository REMIX ( remix.berklee.edu ) and suite of digital special collections.
Creation, maintenance and expansion of digital collections and the metadata associated with those collections.
Assist in metadata creation for streaming audio/video of Berklee events and performances that comprise the high-visibility “Berklee Events Online” repository.
Work with a wide range of stakeholders to design and develop public-facing websites that showcase and exploit digital assets.
Collaborate with Chairs, faculty, and other members of the Berklee community on management of Berklee-created collections of teaching assets.
Drive engagement with and outreach to faculty, staff, students, alumni, and others within and outside the Berklee community who are engaging with Berklee's Archival and special collections.
Understand and ensure adherence to appropriate copyright frameworks surrounding digital collections and repositories.
Promotion/marketing of digital projects.
Supervision of student employees.
Other duties as needed.
Required qualifications
Masters degree required. Strong preference given to an MLS degree from an ALA-accredited Library/Information Science program. Graduate degree in another relevant field will also be considered.
Minimum 1-3 years experience working in academic libraries or a university/college setting that focused on management of digital assets.
Proven successful track record working with a broad range of stakeholders, including university/college leadership and potential funders/donors.
Solid foundation in and understanding of the role institutional repositories currently play in the academic environment and the challenges associated with building open access platforms of commercially published content.
Knowledge of technical metadata standards and tools, such as EAD, MODS, Dublin Core, RDA, AACR2, BibFRAME, and Linked Data, and controlled vocabularies, such as LCNAF, LCMPT, LCGFT, LCSH, VIAF.
Familiarity with one or more common software platforms used to exhibit digital assets such as Omeka, Islandora/Fedora, DSpace, etc.
Demonstrated success in project management.
Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others across a wide variety of departments. Experience working with artists strongly preferred.
Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to multitask and sustain multiple projects at a time.
Preferred qualifications
Undergraduate or graduate degree in performing arts.
Experience with Digital Commons’ bepress platform.
Experience working with and managing A/V assets is very strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of scripting and database query languages, such as SQL, NoSQL, Python, PHP, etc. a very strong plus.
Familiarity with Evergreen and LibLime Koha library systems.
Knowledge and understanding of U.S. and European copyright laws, as well as open access licensing services such as Creative Commons.
Awareness of best practices and trends within the digital repository and scholarly communications fields, and metadata field.
