Responsibilities

As a Co-Op on Berkley Technology Services (BTS)’ Database Administration team, you’ll partner directly with a team of highly experienced and engaged database administrators who service thousands of databases across our enterprise environment.  You’ll gain hands-on experience with the administration and support of a database environment that spans SQL Server, and DB2 on Linux, and even PostgreSQL and MySQL. With us, you’ll never operate in a silo.  You’ll engage regularly with peer engineering teams as well, learning about the technical solutions that impact and influence our database environment. And in so doing, you’ll build your knowledge around the broader technical considerations that influence how databases are optimized for performance and scaled to meet both changing business needs and an evolving technical landscape.

In this role, you’ll:

• Participate in our team’s queue to troubleshoot and resolve any database and/or data movement issues that may arise
• Support team projects that may include building SQL Servers and databases, provisioning, architectural reviews, and more
• Assist with software upgrades and patching as part of our lifecycle management initiatives
• Take a hands-on role, learning the intricacies of database administration, performance tuning, and proactive monitoring
• Collaborate with peer technical teams including Middleware, Application Development, Systems Engineering and more to ensure broader technical initiatives incorporate required database requirements
• Partner with our Command Center Support Team to support the resolution of database monitoring alerts
• Engage with BTS’ Information Security team to understand potential vulnerabilities and security matters that may impact our database environment

Qualifications

• Registered undergraduate student pursuing a major in an IT-related degree with a preferred overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• At least three years of college or university coursework completed; preference is for some coursework related to data systems, databases, and/or data movement
• Prior related co-op, internship, and/or on or off-campus technical experience preferred but not required
• Light understanding of database structures including working with and designing systems preferred; academic exposure will suffice
• Previous exposure to RDBMS solutions (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, etc.) is a plus
• Experience leading group projects in a classroom, internship/co-op, and/or professional setting is a plus
• Some exposure to the Windows OS a plus
