Responsibilities

Nautilus Insurance Group is seeking a Director, Underwriting Excellence to join our team in Scottsdale, AZ on a hybrid schedule.

 

The Director will:

 

Lead efforts to optimize and maximize the performance objectives of Nautilus by developing relevant criteria and performing trend and other analysis on written policy performance. 

 

Provide oversight and daily management of the underwriting quality of internal and external production sources ensuring standards are met and implementing quality control standards where needed.  Includes two primary sources below, but not limited to –

• Internal underwriting, and
• External underwriting, by way of wholesale agent, or external technology platform.

Collaborate with Underwriting, Partner Management, Training & Development, and Marketing & Communications, to develop and enhance our Underwriting Quality strategy.

 

Create and staff all functional roles of audit utilizing both staff and outsourced resources, including –

• Investigating outsourcing or technology enhancement opportunities, and
• Coordinating responses to RFPs and participating in vendor contract negotiations and management.

 

Qualifications

• A minimum of seven [7] years’ experience in the insurance industry with a concentration on underwriting.  Excess and Surplus lines experience is preferred.
• Ability to effectively communicate in various standard formats [writing, verbal, etc.] with internal and external stakeholders and customers, including ad-hoc and prepared presentations of appropriate subject matter.
• Ability to maintain a travel schedule of approximately 10% to 15% of total annual days, consisting of agency meetings, corporate functions, conventions, and conferences. 
• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or a minimum of seven [7] years related insurance industry experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Completion of a related insurance designation, e.g., CPCU, ASLI, AIC, etc., is preferred.
