Responsibilities
The Public Relations and Community Outreach Manager is responsible for enhancing the company’s reputation, fostering positive relationships with stakeholders and contributing to our community engagement efforts. This position will be responsible for developing and executing strategic public relations initiatives for industry brand building opportunities and community outreach programs. The position will also lead a small marketing team.
Key functions include but are not limited to:
Industry Conferences, Events, Speaking Engagements
- Identify opportunities for speaking engagements at industry trade shows and events. Prepare speaker proposals, track acceptances, and coordinate logistics with Marketing Assistant.
- Assist with tradeshow and event planning execution.
- Attend select conferences to seek opportunities to increase brand presence.
- Review conference data, and industry reports to determine brand building opportunities.
Award Nominations Coordinator
- Identify opportunities for MEC to be recognized for their expertise in the industry.
- Gather requirements, identify potential internal awardees, coordinate award nominations, track progress, outcomes and coordinate communications with Marketing Communications Strategist.
Communication Distribution
- Manage the distribution of social media posts and email communications for targeted audiences and general media announcements.
- Coordinate the publishing of articles in industry publications and business journals.
- Partner with Communications Strategist to conduct end-to-end media outreach, including building media lists and coordinating media placements.
- Monitor progress, monthly.
Community Outreach
- Lead local community outreach and industry charity sponsorships and event coordination.
- Identify opportunities to engage with local community organizations that align with MEC and Berkley’s community impact goals. This includes partnering with MEC’s diversity, inclusion and belonging team to coordinate activities that align with the company’s values.
- Track and analyze community impact.
Lead and develop a small team of marketing professionals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in public relations, Communications, Marketing, or related field (Master's preferred).
- 8-10 years of insurance industry experience
- Proven experience in public relations, community outreach, or a related role
- Previous people leader experience, preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent relationship-building and networking abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in using PR and communication tools and software including Hootsuite, iContact, Salesforce
- Some travel may be required, up to 15%
