Responsibilities
As an Underwriting Manager, you'll be responsible for supporting BSW’s growth, profitability and service objectives through the:
- Leadership of assistant underwriting staff that will execute underwriting decisions regarding new business and renewal acceptability and changes to policies within delegated authority.
- Support Assistant Underwriters on underwriting related questions, guidelines and procedures.
- Maintain daily production in day to day Assistant Underwriter tasks in accordance with production, quality, and service standards set forth for the role.

We'll count on you for:
- Leadership of Assistant Underwriters to include but not limited to: Underwriting Acumen, Performance Reviews; Goal Setting, Production Monitoring, Underwriting Quality, Employee Development and Training.
- Maintaining active role in day to day Assistant Underwriter tasks in accordance with production, quality, and service standards set forth for the role.
- Daily management of Assistant Underwriter workflow and overall task date status.
- Developing and maintaining documentation for standard practices, processes and procedures in partnership with underwriting team. Provide communications to staff accordingly.
- Developing and implementing training when needed to all Assistant Underwriters on underwriting topics and procedures.
- Assuming responsibility for new hire onboarding and training for Assistant Underwriter role.
- Review and assessment of management reports to confirm we are meeting production, quality, and service standards. Implement processes or corrective action when needed.
- Assistance with quality reviews as requested by VP Field Underwriting.
- Participation in testing various systems, such as Policy Processing, Online submission, Imaging/Workflow, etc.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience desired.
- Advanced insurance education is desired, such as Associate in General Insurance, Kaplan Insurance courses, CPCU etc.
- 3 years experience in an underwriting related role.
- 2 years as underwriting lead, supervisory and/or leadership experience desired.
- Minimum of 3 years multi-line commercial insurance experience (rating, coverage, processing, underwriting). Ability to teach this subject matter through visual demonstration, verbal and/or written explanation while using mentoring skills.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement to make sound decisions, using available data or logical assumptions that best fit the situation.
- Effectively present information, in one-on-one or small group situations, to other employees in the organization, as well as to agents and customers.
- Ability to research, analyze and interpret documentation, procedures manuals and rating tools to assist co-workers.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos and to communicate ideas clearly and effectively.
