The plant instructor/simulator analyzes, designs, develops, implements and evaluates training programs.
Develops high-quality training materials, including system descriptions and operating instructions, qualification checklists and other materials as assigned.
Provide instruction to operations and maintenance personnel on power plant topics and technologies demonstrates mastery of skills and extensive subject matter knowledge in carrying out assignments associated with the analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation, and proposed modification of plant specific operations training programs.
Delivers Integrated Systems Training to instruct employees in plant operation and prepare them for field or control room watchstanding. (30%)
Coordinates, and conducts performance-based training programs as required by user community in accordance with MEC Thermal Plant Standards 12 and 13, department procedures, and with proper application of the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) model. (15%)
Designs, develops, implements and presents Integrated Systems Training and initial operator and requalification training programs. Effectively operates multiple simulator platforms and classroom display instructional systems according to Training Group procedures. (15%)
Assures the training programs are maintained current and incorporate information gained from Operating Experience Reports, vendor bulletins and information notices, plant design change, plant procedure changes and revisions, new regulations, and training effectiveness reports. (5%)
Prepares trainee examination and conducts trainee evaluations for classroom, OJT, and simulator environments, as appropriate and conducts counseling sessions for trainees, evaluates the results, and recommends/develops individualized training programs. Prepares employees for initial and requalification examinations. (5%) Support site and fleet in the areas of business initiatives, project management, outage support and special projects. (5%)
Maintains knowledge of plant operations, disciplinary skills and techniques, commensurate with the responsibility to develop and conduct effective, high quality training. (5%)
Supervises the collection and maintenance of auditable training records and reports required to document training program activities. (5%)
Assist in the administration of the department budget and reporting the work performed within the department. (5%) Participates in management audits, and prepares responses to audit findings. (5%)
Identify, evaluate and coordinate with others the implementation of improved work practices and processes. (5%)
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. Perform additional responsibilities including assisting the unit manager and shift supervisor as requested or assigned.
Bachelor's degree in science, engineering or a related field or the equivalent through experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
Five years hands-on fossil/combined-cycle power plant and industry experience in operations, maintenance or related training or completion of Navy Nuclear Power Training Pipeline w/Technical rating & Instructor Certification & Qualification or Navy Master Training Specialist rating or possess a military technical rating & qualification, e.g. gas turbines, including one year in a senior technical/leadership role.
Recent related operations training experience required. Prefer knowledge of and experience with the systematic approach to training (SAT). Ability to decipher P&ID's and complete efficient walkdowns of power plant systems.
Additional experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: Wet and dry scrubbers, supercritical units, water chemistry, water treatment and waste water treatment plant operation.
Hands-on power plant simulator experience.
Stand up instruction DCS, process controls and instrumentation Complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems.
Project management and training material development Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Effective oral and written communications skills, including presentation skills, to transmit information accurately and effectively.
Specialized knowledge of operation and maintenance at an electric generating station.
