• The candidate will assist in the triage of coverage referrals and enter matters into the appropriate system.
• The handling of coverage matters involves identifying parties in a matter and their respective roles, determining where appropriate responses need to be directed, preparing responses and following the matter through closing.
• The candidate will investigate coverage for named employers and policyholders and interact with other departments to prepare responses on a case-by-case basis. The coverage position will also investigate coverage by checking state databases and utilizing other available programs and resources.
• The coverage position will become familiar with the workers compensation policies for both the voluntary and residual workers’ compensation markets, and the various types of policy actions including terminations, non-renewals, expiration and lapses as well as the reasons for each.
• The coverage position will be responsible for responding to assertions of coverage in workers’ compensation matters, including:
• Understanding each state’s protocol for proper termination and the resources to identify same.
• Formulating directed responses to the appropriate party/entity.
• Utilizing internal and external resources to assemble proofs in litigated coverage matters in a manner that furthers defense of coverage actions.
• Assigning counsel on litigated cases as directed when the need arises.
• The coverage position should be able to recognize trends and/or procedures which affect coverage and bring them to the attention of appropriate party(s).
• The coverage position will also assist in the preparation of responses on subpoenas for matters, provide assistance within the Legal Department as the need arises, and ensure that invoices are submitted to AP.

• Required:
• Minimum 4-year degree from an accredited educational institution.
• Capable of providing analysis and direction in a thoughtful and organized manner.
• Communicates effectively with internal and external parties.

• Organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, and flexible.
• Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.


• Preferred
• 2-5 years of experience in the insurance industry. Specific experience in Workers’ Compensation, especially coverage or claims-related roles, is a plus.
• Other relevant graduate education is a plus.
