About the Role The Journeyman Gas Fitter reports to the Smart Meter Deployment Manager at Bermex. This position plays a key role in gas meter maintenance, exchange, and measurement. This position also requires a high degree of walking in outdoor environmental conditions, excellent time management, and exceptional flexibility day to day. What You’ll Do Gas Meter Exchanges: Perform visual inspections of gas service for leaks Identify hazards at meter sites and report accordingly Properly change out gas meters of varying sizes and brands Properly change out gas meter registers for AMI/AMR upgrade Perform safety checks to ensure proper installation Customer Communication: Refer all consumer complaints to the appropriate authorities Provide general information about the meter services to customers, when applicable Use telephones, tablets, and/or computers to communicate Other duties as assigned. About You Must haves: Education: Some High School education, must be 18 years of age or older. Must possess a Journeyman Gas Fitter license, active in the state of Alabama or in other states with a reciprocity agreement. Upon hire, the candidate will need to complete and pass all Pipeline Operator Qualification (OQ) trainings. Must possess a valid driver’s license Experience: 1 year experience in exchanging gas meters of varying sizes with ability to properly safety test, troubleshoot and relight pilot lights on a variety of existing appliances Nice to haves: Education: High School Degree Experience: 3 years of experience in exchanging gas meters of varying sizes with ability to properly safety test, troubleshoot and relight pilot lights on a variety of existing appliances Your Skills: Ability to multi-task, and work independently and as a team Exceptional flexibility in daily routines and route scheduling.
