Purpose and Essential Duties

The Quality Control Director is responsible for the overall management, direction, implementation, and improvements of Bernhard’s Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes and procedures on projects within the region. The Quality Control Director has the responsibility to accurately and fully inform management of each project’s overall quality, including but not limited to potential liabilities and/or concerns. The Quality Control Director is also an active participant in the Bernhard Quality Group and assists on the development of company-wide Quality procedures and processes. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Candidates for this role MUST be willing to travel within the United States up to 50% of the time.
  • Lead yearly regional quality business planning, establishing goals and objectives.
  • Implement goals and objectives outlined in the quality business plan and supports regional business plan.
  • Participate and lead corporate quality programs and assist with the development of corporate quality goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Bernhard Quality Group to set goals and develop strategy in enhancing and improving the Company’s quality program.
  • Develop, manage, and evaluate data analytics and metrics within Bernhard’s quality tracking software for the quality program; this includes partnering with the Corporate Internal Controls Group to effectively manage risk.
  • Provide monthly dashboard regarding the regional/divisional project quality status, additionally provides quarterly quality metrics to executive leadership.
  • Responsible for relevant quality communications regarding best practices, lessons learned, updates to the field, recent events, regional newsletters, update on quality incidents and end of project value added summaries.
  • Responsible for identifying, coordinating and overseeing quality specific trainings as well as support corporate trainings.
  • Assist in the hiring of quality professionals and supports their development and knowledge of our quality program.
  • Responsible for supporting project personnel in the implementation of the Quality Program policies and procedures on their project through proactive planning, training, support and sharing lessons learned.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Site Specific Quality Plans, Water Incident Prevention Programs, MEP Programs, and multi-trade rack fabrication on projects.
  • Conduct project site visits and evaluations.
  • Act as a key interface within the market participating with key quality associations, and business leaders to build and maintain an active network of contacts and build relationships.

This position is Full Time, Exempt, and reports to Vice President of Operational Services.

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering required OR HS diploma and equivalent experience.
  • 10 years of experience working on commercial, healthcare, hospitality, education, water, or industrial projects, with a combined value of over 200M required.
  • Previous experience related to quality assurance and quality control process implementation required.
  • Candidates for this role MUST be willing to travel within the United States up to 50% of the time.
  • General knowledge of construction principles, practices, materials, methods, tools, and equipment required.
  • Intermediate computer skills in core software including Microsoft Suite required.
  • Ability to work with all project partners (owners, designers, consultants, general contractors, trades/subcontractors etc.) and multiple shared service teams.
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, and ability to work with project teams to balance project constraints and Bernhard policies and procedures.
  • Ability to motivate, develop and direct people as they work.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, decision-making, leadership, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with Bernhard core values (Safety, Innovation, Teamwork and Ethics) while maintaining a “value added” approach to Quality.
  • Experience working with general contractors, subcontractors, and self-perform work.
  • Experience with BlueBeam, Autodesk/BIM 360, and Procore OR related software/systems.
