Bernstein Shur, a New England-based law firm that advises clients across the U.S. and around the world, is seeking a Part-time Research and Information Analyst to work in its Portland, ME office.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Research and Information Analyst will be responsible for supporting the firm’s attorneys, consultants, and staff by conducting a variety of research and analysis projects as well as maintaining the firm’s collection of reference materials and resources The ideal candidate is detail oriented and adept at finding, understanding, and synthesizing complex data and information to inform strategic decision making.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Respond to legal research requests from attorneys, consultants, and staff and summarize findings in clear, concise, and comprehensive research reports.
  • Perform collection management activities for the firm’s reference collections, develop guides and instructional tools to support learning and cull outdated materials.
  • Manage a suite of online research products, maintain productive, positive relationships with research technology vendors and assist with acquisition and renewal negotiations.
  • Develop and maintain a budget for the firm’s suite of research products and reference materials.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with the firm’s practice group leaders to anticipate ongoing research needs.
  • Conduct new employee orientation sessions and introductions to library services and resources.
  • Train lawyers and professional staff on the use of Internet-based legal research programs such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other intelligence resources.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of new and existing electronic resources and technology, with an emphasis of improving research efficiencies.
  • Monitor the legal and business landscape for developments or changes that are relevant to the firm, its practice groups, and/or the firm’s current and prospective client base.
  • Other duties as assigned.

DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in library science from a library school that is accredited by the ALA.
  • Experience in a law firm setting preferred
  • 3 years using electronic research platforms, including LexisNexis, Westlaw, Docket Navigator, Manzama, Bloomberg Terminal, MonitorSuite, Pitchbook, and/or other relevant intelligence resources.
  • Excellent research and writing skills, with a strong eye for detail.
  • The ability to synthesize large amounts of complex data into formal reports that are easy to understand and help to inform key decisions.
  • Strong customer service and relationship management skills.
  • Curiosity and passion for problem solving.
  • Experience with budgeting and negotiations.
  • The ability to self-motivate and prioritize appropriately.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Pay: $30.77 - $38.46 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
