What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Court Clerk II position at Berrien County?
DUTIES:
Performs duties related to the clerical, bookkeeping and public contact functions of the court.
Attends all court sessions of an assigned judge; administers oaths, maintains daily journal of court activity, completes trial sheets, selects juries and completes trial books.
Operates equipment in order to record court activity; performs related tasks such as labeling and logging of exhibits, plays electronic depositions for the court and jury and prepares tapes for proper storage.
Receives, prepares and processes numerous reports, court orders and vouchers for submission to the county and state departments according to established deadlines.
Performs computer entry of criminal and civil actions.
Receives and answers written and telephone inquiries from the public and governmental agencies regarding the work and records of the court.
Orders office supplies as needed according to established departmental procedures.
Maintains files of related records and correspondence.
Acts as backup for County Clerk file clerks.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent and three years of court/legal experience.
Court file maintenance experience is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Certified Electronic Operator (CEO) certification must be obtained within six months from date of employment.
Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
Must pass a pre-employment physical, including drug testing and background check, before employment.
Employees will be fingerprinted.
TYPING REQUIREMENT:
Must have a typing speed of 40 words per minute net. If you have not taken a typing test with Berrien County, please contact Personnel by phone or email to schedule one.
