What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Educator position at Berrien County?
DUTIES:
Facilitates and delivers health education curriculum in a variety of settings to teach audiences about issue-specific health topics.
Assists with program and community needs assessments and evaluates program outcomes using data gathered from program participants.
Actively participates in community collaborative efforts to improve community health outcomes by assisting individuals and communities to address root causes and make the healthy choice the easy choice.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with diverse individuals, organizations, and other professionals to coordinate and improve health programs and services.
Assists in the maintenance of health education and education resources for use by other groups and employees of the Health Department.
May coordinate special health projects, programs and/or presentations for specific audiences or topics.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in health education/promotion, community or public health, or a related educational field from a college or university of recognized standing;
OR
Associate’s Degree in health education, community or public health, or a related educational field from a college of recognized standing and two years of community outreach and/or education experience related to health promotion and education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license and a vehicle.
Necessary certifications and/or completion of required trainings required for specific health education programs assigned.
In times of a public health emergency, may be required to report for specialized assigned duties inside or outside of Berrien County.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Superior written and oral communication skills.
Excellent public speaking skills.
Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate effective learning for diverse audiences.
Emotional and mental maturity necessary for establishing and maintaining good working relationships with clients, community partners, and other agency personnel.
Working knowledge of standard office equipment and software.
Ability to assess situations, solve problems, and work effectively under stress and within deadlines.
DESIRED:
Previous experience working with health promotion programs, particularly working with populations such as youth and families.
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, objectives and implementation strategies of health education programs.
Understanding of structural influences on health, including the intersections of race and health, education and health, and income and health.
Ability to accurately record services and data within established timeframes.
