Responsibilities
Summary
The Quality Engineer (QE) is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to manufacturing & technical support teams and for other quality process improvement projects as assigned. The QE provides supervision to hourly quality personnel. Assists and participates in the development and evaluation of the quality system, quality education and training, audits, problem investigation and quality measurements.
Essential Jobs and Responsibilities
- Accountable for personal adherence to all applicable Safety, GMP, Food Safety, and Plant Policies
- Plans and directs activities concerned with development, application and maintenance of quality standards
- Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing and evaluation, utilizing knowledge in quality engineering tools and techniques.
- Develops and maintains, in conjunction with process engineering, each processing parameter record and quality plan.
- Creates detailed work instructions to ensure operators and auditors are properly informed and that each person operates within the documented processing parameter.
- Ensures the Quality Auditor team is in compliance to all documented standards.
- Works with the Quality Technician(s) to identify improvement opportunities, devise sampling plans and procedures in manufacturing and quality.
- Establishes programs to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment, product testing measurement and analytical equipment in our facility.
- Works with department manager to develop and implement methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material and devises methods to assess cost and responsibility.
- Compiles and writes training material. Conducts training sessions on quality control activities and safety topics to hourly employees in the Quality Department.
- Participates and supports internal and external quality audits.
- Provides technical support to manufacturing on quality and process issues.
- Communicates with internal and external customers and vendors such as production, supervisors, inside sales and Plant Manager.
- On a consistent basis, reports the status for each assigned project or business review metric.
- Any other duties as may be assigned.

- Read and interpret specifications and part prints
- Strong organizational skills and communication skills
- Thorough understanding of problem-solving and quality improvement tools and techniques
- Ability to use gauges and measurement equipment as necessary
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Strong computer skills
- Meets the requirements of a Quality Technician
Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent amount of experience as a quality engineer.
Work Environment
Food Safety/GMP Manufacturing Environment
Regularly required to walk, lift and carry materials (~ 20 lbs.) up and down the stairs and through plant in order to function in their job.
